Week 3 of Glory Days Sports Coed Softball League was really awesome. By the looks of the picture to the right, some of us would not have missed it for anything (even a bathroom break). That is just fine by us...just not right by us, if you know what I mean.
***AFTER FURTHER CONSIDERATION (AND SOME ARM BENDING), GLORY DAYS SPORTS HAS JOINTLY DECIDED TO CENSOR THIS PICTURE TO PROTECT THE ANONYMITY OF THE INNOCENT. MOVING FORWARD ALL G.D. NEWSLETTERS WILL BE WRITTEN IN A STRICTLY POSITIVE AND STATISTICAL MANOR. PLEASE CONTINUE TO FORWARD ALL TEAM STATS AND ALSO PLEASE RESPOND TO THE BLOG, AS WE ALWAYS WANT TO HEAR YOUR VOICE. IF I PERSONALLY OFFENDED ANYONE, PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGIES. IF I MADE YOU LAUGH, PLEASE FORWARD ANY GRATUITIES MY WAY!***
NOW TO THE SCORES:
Game 1
Title America loses their first game of the season to Team Awesome 12-4.
Highlights- Dustin smokes a Home Run over the fence...rumor has it, that it was a routine pop fly with 30 mph winds playing a big part!
Game 2
LawnKrafters barely edge out the Buttermakers 10-9.
Highlights- Jim Casey of the Buttermakers falls face first to the ground on a running throw to first base. Then gives me, my daughter, my niece and nephew, and pretty much the entire crowd the finger (for applauding his effort).
Game 3 (The afternoon rock concert)
Green Monsters beat the Blue Jays 9-6.
High Life (I mean Highlights brought to you by Miller)- John Sherwood of Team Awesome entices NSYNC to make a guest appearance for this quite game. While we do not encourage blasting the radio during the games, it would have been just fine if he had some kind of taste in music!
Game 4
Title America gives the now Bittermakers their second lose of the day by the score of 9-4.
Highlights- Guess who slid (fell) face first in to third base while knocking the wind out of himself...that's right this season's Fan Favorite, Neil Wetzel!
Game 5
ARH remains undefeated after beating the Blue Jays 10-2.
Highlights- The Carty Tandem with great individual performances. Chris swallows everything at short and Pop Carty records Glory Days Sports first ever Strike Out! Unfortunately for the Blue Jays, Ricky Haggen's aggressive approach at the plate also afforded him a 2 for 4 day with a Triple and 2 Runs and oh yes, The Strike Out.

Althrough I agree with the injury possibles with metal spikes. But if you don't slide there's no possible of injury. There are other rules that are being taken advantage of. There is alcohol being consumed at the fields by more then one team. Playing in other leagues, I've seen more problems with the drinking of alcohol on the fields then with foot wear. If there are going to be rules, everyone need to follow them!
Metal spikes can be dangerous even if you don't slide! A fall with feet flying in the air could result in an injury to other players on the field. And, lets be honest, how hard would it be to make a conscious decision NOT to slide. If you have played your whole life, your first instinct is to slide if the play is close.
The league is a fun, mess around type league and were all old enough to drink. I understand that it can be dangerous but you most likely are only going to hurt yourself. I play in multiple leagues with men that hit the ball much harder than in this league and they all drink there as well. the problem with metal cleats is you are going to hurt someone else as was seen in the first game of the season when a player from the green team tried to take out the third baseman in the game.
We think y'all are doing a great job! You are always going to have the haters and the people that want to tell you how to run your leagues, that's just a given. Don't let them get to you! Just do it the way you guys want, it's all in good fun anyways!!
This is the most organized league we have ever been a part of and my entire team wanted to thank you for it, from being at all the games (which you rarley see in another league), to getting the fields ready to even blogging about the games every week (which is a great addition). That's what makes the league so great and very unique!
Just wait, once word gets out, you are going to have at least 10 teams next summer, maybe more!
I agree, the commissioners are doing a great job with the league. The fields are always set up which takes stress away from the coaches setting bases. I also appreciate that they are also at the fields during the games to take care of any issues tht may come up. I have also played on other leagues that it was impossible to get anyone if an issue arosed. Playing ball whether a pick-up game or in leagues there are rules. Rules are rules and we should follow concerning we are all adults.
