Week 7
Marlton League

This one wasn’t very close but it was a pretty entertaining game to watch if you were there. Hit &; Run got on the board early and any hope Brian Babineau had of getting another game ball went out the window. The Hairy Koalas failed to respond in their half of the inning.

Babineau put the first 2 Hit & Run batters on in the top half of the 2nd and Russell “Rusty Griswald” Reese singled to load the bases. Mike Carnevale singled in a run and then, not to be out done, Kevin Newell cleared the bases with a triple. Mike Powell got in on the fun with a single of his own to score Kevin which ended the scoring for Hit & Run. Rhoys Coker singled off of the soccer playing shortstop’s foot for the Hairy Koalas to start things off. Beth Atkins then got the crowd going with a single to left which put 2 on and no out. Tom Snyder got on base and moved the runner over to third on a fielder’s choice back to the pitcher. Chris Seeds then got on base thanks to some shaky glove work by Hit & Run which scored Rhoys. Then, Mike “Nobody beats the wiz” Wisniewski singled in another run for the Hairy Koalas. Unfortunately that was all the offense the Hairy Koalas could come up with as Michelle Caporale popped up to kill the rally.

Justin Stepanow got his 2nd leadoff hit in as many innings with a double to left. Tom Snyder of the Hairy Koalas almost took Justin’s head off with his relay in from center but Justin skillfully ducked the throw (someone should sign him up for dodgeball) and eventually scored on the error. Mike Carnevale doubled in one more run for Hit & Run before Rhoys “Web Gem” Coker made a great diving catch to end the inning. It’s a shame the ESPN cameras weren’t there for this game as this easily would’ve made the top 10 plays of the day. The Hairy Koalas had some more fireworks in the bottom of the third. After a single by Anthony Bernato, Player/Coach Brian Cotter knocked a 2 run homer to left – it looked to be a run of the mill homer until Brian got to 3rd base. At this point, he decided he might get home faster if he crawled the rest of the way….either that or he tripped on 3rd base. I’ll let you decide. Dennis Moffett hit a bases loaded triple a few batters later and the Hairy Koalas looked like they were right back in the game.

Mike Powell blasted a triple to right field to lead off the inning (I think I heard Brian Cotter say “I would’ve scored on that. He should’ve crawled once he got to third”). Anthony Bernato tried to one up his teammate, Rhoys Coker, with a nice diving catch of his own on a foul ball. The defense of the Hairy Koalas was looking pretty good in the 4th as Dennis Moffett flashed some leather with a nice over the shoulder catch that ended the inning. The Hairy Koalas couldn’t get much going in their turn at bat with only an infield single in the inning.

The defensive prowess of the Hairy Koalas was short lived – Michelle Caporale took what would’ve been a nice play and turned it into a circus as she launched a ball into right field after making a nice stop at 3rd. This opened the way for Mike Carnevale who doubled in 2 runs. Kevin “One Upper” Newell then tripled to knock in Carnevale and then went on to score on a single by Mike Powell. The Hairy Koalas looked like they ran out of gas and went scoreless again in the bottom of the 5th.

Justin “Juice” Stepanow showed off his power with a leadoff homer to left. Dustin Moffett made another nice play in the field with a diving stop which saved a run (and prolonged the agony for his team). Kevin Newell padded his stats a little more with a blooper to right that scored 2 runs. Brian Cotter led off for the Hairy Koalas in what would be their last at bat due to being down by about 50 runs. He managed to get on base on an error and even managed to stay on his feet in an impressive display of athleticism. Pierre Cadas showed that the Koalas, much like the Goonies, never say die with a single to knock in Brian. Brian Babineau hustled to third in an apparent effort to earn another gameball and Rhoys Coker then knocked in another run before Hit & Run got out of the inning & the game.

Around the Marlton League: Sta-Green Turf Care and The Ball Busters either rescheduled their game, the game is still going on, or it was so bad that they didn’t submit a score. Balls & Knockers got a little closer to clinching a playoff spot with a 9-3 win over the HK Bombers. We Got the Runs won 6-1 over PJ’s in a game that took just long enough for 3 beers.

Hammonton League

Rumor has it ARH & Title America had a hell of a game. Unfortunately, Lee Minniti talked me into going to the Phillies game with him on Sunday and I was unable to attend. For future reference, if Lee ever asks you to go to a game with him, make sure you get the tickets from him before the day of the game. On the Brightside, McFaddens has some fantastic beer tub girls so the day wasn’t a total waste.

Around the Hammonton League: The Rabid Woodchucks got their 2nd win of the season with a win over I’ll Hit that. That’s What She Said then knocked them right back down to earth with a 17-7 win over the Rabid Woodchucks. The West End Warriors kept themselves in position for a playoff spot with a win over Just Us. ARH stayed in 1st place with a 16-15 win over Title America in a real nail-biter. The Wet Beavers shut out Prestige Worldwide 10-0.

Week 7
Marlton League

Week Seven … I mean weak seven! It wasn’t a very exciting night of basketball to say the least. This week’s games featured Team Ghost vs. 67ers and the Grizzle Bear Survivors vs. Grated Cheese. Despite the interest level in these games please read on as some interesting things did occur throughout the night.

Team GHOST came into this week with a 1-5 record. High off their win from the previous week or something like that team GHOST came ready to play while the 67ers were in search of their first win. The game started and not even the presence of Governor McGreevey in a white and black zebra thong would have surprised this crowd as play went back and forth with each team turning the ball over. After the first 7 minutes of play the score was 6 – 4 in favor of team GHOST. As play continued team GHOST opened up a 20 – 12 lead with just under 4 minutes to play. Given their team name in an effort to make up for other teams not being able to see them they sure are loud. Team GHOST has one of the loudest benches in the league and at this point has taken over the number 1 spot for 6th man of the year award. It also helps that for some reason family and friends sit on their bench as added inspiration. To close out the first half the 67ers went on a run of their own lead by Mark DeNafo and Nate Monroe each scoring 6 points to close out the half down 21 – 26. Nate Reedy from GHOST led all scorers in the first half with 11.

The second half began with GHOST going on a 22 to 7 run putting them ahead by twenty, 48 – 28. One highlight for the 67ers in the second half was when Mark DeNafo somehow managed to shoot a “high archer” through the rafters and just short of the basket. I have seen many actually shoot and hit the rafters but this was a first for Glory Days Sports. Mark DeNafo said after the game he was going for one of those 25 pointers from MTV’s Rock and Jock Basketball. His inspiration came from none other than now Rock and Jock Basketball Hall of Famer player/coach Bill Bellamy of the Violators. Despite this desperation shot team GHOST was not fazed and continued to play their game. Nate Reedy led the way for team GHOST with 25 points in a 60 – 40 final.

The late game featured a matchup between the Grizzle Bear Survivors and Grated Cheese. These two teams had each other marked on their schedules all season long. One might ponder why this would be? I will tell you why… Grizzle Bear Survivors team captain Lou Russo was a former team member of Grated Cheese. That’s right folks Lou Russo could have been seen last season jumping on top of the pile in what proved to be a meaningless win against OFF ALL NIGHT. Contrary to popular belief Grated Cheese did beat OFF ALL NIGHT once last season. They will not get that chance to do so again this year. With Lou Russo on his new team Grated Cheese was looking for revenge, a dish best served cold. Even Grated Cheese Coach Jay Wright was suited up for this epic battle. No, not the suit you are used to seeing him in on the sideline including shirt and tie with his clipboard (one player who will remain anonymous believes he has seen this clipboard being used to play tic-tac-toe on the sideline during a game) but an actual jersey and shorts. Despite all the hype surrounding this game GBS seemed to be missing a few players to start the game. Normally I wouldn’t recognize players not at the game, but there was one in particular that for some odd reason stuck out in my mind… Lou Russo. Can you believe it! I can’t. Look for a comment from Lou Russo in next weeks newsletter as to why he was a no call no show for this much anticipated battle to the death. With that terrible news the game all of a sudden lost all its excitement.

The game started with GBS jumping all over Grated Cheese. It seemed that GBS was scoring with ease and that Grated Cheese was hardly scoring. At the end of the first half GBS led Grated Cheese by the score of 34 – 12.

The second half wasn’t much different. GBS continued to dominate Grated Cheese. One highlight for Grated Cheese in the second half was a basket scored by Brian Riley. For those of you who don’t know Brian he is known of his antics on the court. Last season he was witnessed showing his nipple while running down the court after a made basket and it wasn’t because he cut his sleeves to short like that of Mike Loser from OFF ALL NIGHT. To no surprise his antics continued against GBS. After Brian’s made basket he did what I am sure was a cross between the chicken dance and R. Kelly’s humping the stage dance (please note Glory Days does not support this type of behavior although it is perceived to be very entertaining). Despite the distractions from Brian Riley and team high 8 points from Tom “The Nasty” Nasto GBS prevailed behind a total team effort. Pat Zano and Chris Hand led the way for GBS with 15 points each in a convincing 67 – 30 win.

Some background information on Jim's "Glory Days":

As a young lad I participated in numerous sports including but not limited to soccer, baseball, basketball, and just about any playground activity that had a ball or the ability to keep score. Winning wasn't everything...it was the only thing. I brought that mentality up through my "glory days" while in high school where I played football, basketball, and baseball. On off days, I would join the tennis team at their practices, just see if I could give them competition too... in a sport that wasn't my forte. After high school I still played basketball and baseball ... and eventually softball.

Responsibility hit me like a ton of bricks when I had my two amazing children, Dominic and Mia. So sports (my "glory days" and my stretch as a so called "awesome athlete"), were over...or were they? I continued softball but irregularly ..and then found the world of golf. Wow, what a different pace but what a great game. Relaxation and competitiveness all around a 1 inch diameter ball. Who would have thought it! Time ceased to exist, for a 6 hour round of golf. Slowly sports became last on the priority list.

Until as of late. Joining Glory Days Sports leagues has brought it back with the numerous events and sporting leagues that seem to always work with the kids and my busy schedule. Now 3 years later, its all coming back!!!

Week 6

Marlton League

Balls & Knockers vs. Hairy Koalas

                Balls & Knockers kept themselves in 2^nd place in the Marlton League with a 9-5 win over the Hairy Koalas.  The Hairy Koalas did most of their damage in the first inning on a pair of bases loaded singles by Dennis Moffett & Beth Atkins.  Beth was apparently having some break problems as she just kept running on a single by Anthony Bernato.  Balls & Knockers got a run back in the bottom of the inning and would’ve cut the lead in half if it weren’t for Jason Hunt trying to round the bases with a piano on his back.
                Both teams put up goose eggs in their half of the 2^nd and the score remained 4-1 until the bottom of the 3^rd.  Ed Kuhn turned on the jets and led off the inning with a triple.  He was quickly knocked in by a Brian Hill single who also scored in the inning to cut the Hairy Koalas’ lead to 1.
                The Hairy Koalas stayed cold in the top of the 4^th and Balls & Knockers took advantage of their cold streak and took the lead back with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning.  Balls & Knockers looked to open up their lead in the bottom of the fifth and pitcher Brian Babineau did his best to put a stop to that with a great defensive play on the mound.  His impressive glovework didn’t prove to be enough as Balls & Knockers scored 3 runs in the inning to open up their lead.  It wasn’t til a sliding catch by Rhoys Coker aka Willy Mayes Hayes in left that Babineau and the Hairy Koalas got out of the inning.
                The Hairy Koalas couldn’t cut into Balls & Knockers lead in their next to at-bats and the game finally ended on a rather impressive pop up by Patrick Wallace.  For some reason, Brian Babineau of the Hairy Koalas received the game ball for his performance in the losing effort. Maybe it was to reward him for slightly less than average pitching performance, maybe it was for his outstanding catch in the field, or maybe it was just because he kept all of his clothes on this week.

Around the Marlton League:  Hit & Run edged Sta-Green Turf Care 8-6 – either Sta-Green is getting better or Hit & Run is getting worse…only time will tell.  PJ’s broke out of their funk with a 22-0 win over the Ball Busters – you couldn’t have picked a better team to play when you’re in the middle of a losing streak.  We Got the Runs stayed perfect with a 12-1 win over the HK Bombers who apparently had the game time mixed up.

Hammonton League
Rabid Woodchucks vs. AC Strangers

                The Rabid Woodchucks squeaked out a hard fought win over the AC Strangers for their first win of the season.  This game was easily the best and most entertaining game I’ve seen all season with a back & forth battle that didn’t end until a walk off homerun in the bottom of the 7^th.
                The AC Strangers got on the board first with one run in the first inning.  Pitcher Ray Ewing gave up back to back singles at which point he received some outstanding advice from left fielder Jeff Driscoll who told him “Hey Ray, try to get a guy out”.  It almost worked but unfortunately, the AC Strangers scored before Ray took his advice and Juan Pino to ground out to end the inning.  The Rabid Woodchucks fought right back in their turn at the plate as they got their first 2 batters on base off of pitcher Neil Wetzel.  Neil got Phil Pirollo to pop up to catcher Carl Maglowski for the first out but one batter later, an error allowed the Rabid Woodchucks to tie the score.  Neil apparently felt bad about making the Pirollo family look bad as he walked Phil’s better half to load the bases.  He then got the next batter to pop up to end the inning with the scored tied 1-1.
                Ray Ewing walked Milissa Lunser to start off the 2^nd inning and was immediately heckled by Jeff Driscoll and Phil Pirollo also known as Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin – no one was off limits for these two.  Chuck McClure came across the infield from his shortstop postion looking like Brian Dawkins intercepting a pass as he leapt in front of his 2^nd baseman to catch a pop up for out #1.  Ray settled down and got the next 2 batters to pop out as well.  The Rabid Woodchucks’ couldn’t get any offense going in the bottom of the 2^nd and the score remained 1-1.
                Neil Wetzel beat out an infield single and scored on an RBI triple by Joe Wells which made up for his error in the previous inning.  With his team down 1 run, Phil Pirollo cranked a 2 run double to take the lead right back for the Rabid Woodchucks.  Chelon Ellis singled in Phil to put them up 2.
                The AC Strangers went down in order as Cesar Morales robbed Mike Tomasella of a basehit, Joe Simko flied out to right and Dave Bartole flied out to deep left to end the inning.  The Rabid Woodchucks put a few more on the board in the bottom of the 4^th with 3 runs to give them a 5 run lead.
                Juan Pino started things off with a single over the head of Chuck McClure who was promptly heckled by Phil & Jeff for being too short. Cesar Morales’ error allowed another baserunner and Tristan Bennett moved the baserunners over with the hardest swinging bunt in softball history.  With runners on second and third, Elaine Piontkowski hit a groundball to Chelon Ellis at first who threw the ball across the diamond to Cesar Morales in plenty of time….if it was a force out.  Unfortunately, he forgot to tag the runner and the bases were loaded.  The AC Strangers only managed to get one run in the inning and the Rabid Woodchucks’ lead was looking like it might be big enough.  In the bottom of the 5^th, Neil Wetzel brushed back Sheri Pirollo who threatened to charge the mound.  Thankfully, commissioner Jamie Connor was there to keep the peace and a crisis was averted.  After things settled down, Neil got Sheri to pop up to end the inning.
                The AC Strangers mounted a comeback in the top of the 6^th inning which was started when Mike Tomasella came up huge with a 2 run double down the left field line to cut the Rabid Woodchucks lead in half.  Joe Simko singled to score Mike Tomasella and make it a 1 run game. After Dave Bartole flied out to deep left field, Juan Pino singled to put men on first & third.  Milissa Lunser then hit what looked to be an easy grounder to Cesar Morales who threw the ball over his first baseman’s head which lead to the tying run crossing the plate.  Tristan Bennett then pulled off another swinging bunt to knock in the go ahead run.  The Rabid Woodchucks came right back in the bottom of the inning as Jeff Driscoll singled and an dropped fly ball in the outfield gave Ray Ewing a chance to help himself- he took full advantage of the opportunity and stroked a 2 run double to take back the lead.  Chuck McCure knocked in another run for insurance but the Rabid Woodchucks got greedy and got gunned at the plate by Dave Bartole for the 3^rd out.
                With a 10-8 lead, the Rabid Woodchucks brought in Cesar Morales to close things out.  Carl Maglowski tomahawked a high pitch for an infield single and then pulled a Roger Dorn when he refused to come out for a pinch runner.  The AC Strangers got another baserunner when Natalie Gimalski got on base thanks to another Cesar Morales error.  I think we should just start calling errors “Cesars” from now on.  Neil Wetzel came up with 2 on and no outs and worked a walk.  A single by KC brought the AC Strangers within 1 and then a Joe Wells sac fly tied the game.  With a chance to take the lead, Cesar flashed some leather and robbed Mike Tomasella for the 2^nd time in the game for the 3^rd out. What happened next made this game an instant classic – Phil Pirollo walked to the plate with the game on the line and hit an opposite field walk off homerun to end the game.

Around the Hammonton League:  The Golden Nugget apparently left their bats at home for the 3^rd game in a row as they lost to Title America 19-1.  The West End Warrior beat Prestige Worldwide to put themselves over the .500 mark.  That’s What She Said won their first game of the day 16-10 over the Wet Beavers.  Just Us gave I’ll Hit That a 17-2 spanking.  ARH put up 21 in their win over That’s What She Said.

Week 6
Marlton League

Last second shot… Week 6 featured two games that were each decided by one point. In the early game OFF ALL NIGHT took on the 0-5 Team GHOST.  I apologize that I don’t have the names of many of the players from Team GHOST to add to this article. It was fairly difficult to keep track of who was who being that they all wore different t-shirts and had numbers written in magic marker on their backs. I doubt that even Dick Tracy could have figured them out.  The game started with each team trading baskets. Then Mike Loser from OFF ALL NIGHT had four close range shots toilet bowl out. Some believed that his shirt was affecting his ability to finish in the paint.  I was told that Mike Loser recently switched shirts from his original which was cut off at the sleeves. Apparently teams were complaining that his shirt was revealing a little too much.  For those of you who are trying to figure out what could have possibly caused this uproar I would advise you please reference the “Janet Jackson Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction.”  Mike perhaps it is time to go back to the oldie but goodie regardless of what others think. Despite this distraction it wasn’t long before OFF ALL NIGHT opened up a 10 point lead behind the sharp shooting of middle aged man of the year nominee Chris Caprio. Don’t be fooled by his matured look or the baseball gravel stained sneakers, this guy can flat out shoot the rock.  Meanwhile the scrappy play of Team GHOST enabled them to chip away at their deficit to bring them within 2 at the end of the first half 25-27.
The second half proved to be just as close as the first. This game was sure to be decided by the last possession. Nate “The Not So Friendly Ghost” Reedy was hitting just about everything he put up. Team GHOST took a 5 point lead with just under two minutes to play. OFF ALL NIGHT was able to close the gap to one on a three by Lee Minniti and a mid range jumper by Chad Hilliard. With less than 5 seconds remaining OFF ALL NIGHT rebounded the front end of a one and one. In an effort to catch Team GHOST with their sheets down, OFF ALL NIGHT neglected to call a time out and pushed the ball down the court.  Chad Hilliard was met by two defenders and had to pass the ball off to team Captain Mike Valenti. The buzzer sounded and the shot went up. The shot would have been reviewed but it was actually no where close to going in.  Team GHOST was led by Nate Reedy and his 23 points. In a losing effort Chad Hilliard scored 21.        Needless to say Team GHOST picked up their first win of the season by upsetting and beating OFF ALL NIGHT 55-54.
              In another inter-league game the Grizzle Bear Survivors looked to stay undefeated against Bro’s Before Ho’s. I would like to know if the Bro’s Before Ho’s team actually believes in their team name. Something tells me that their team name might not hold true at a bar at 1:30 am when a little something something approaches you. I usually am not concerned with my Bro’s whatsoever at that point. Now back to the game.  Glory Days own Mark Denafo suggested at the start of the game that this could be a preview of this years championship.  The first half featured several lead changes as both teams went back and forth each scoring tough baskets while playing good defense.  Chris Hand from the Grizzle Bear Survivors owned the paint in the first half scoring at will. Keith Brown from BBH’s was quick to answer at the other end. At the end of the first half BBH’s led GBS 25–23.
              Bro’s Before Ho’s came out on fire in the second half hitting three consecutive 3’s.  Lou Russo responded with a three of his own finally finding his stroke from behind the arc. With ten minutes to play in the game GBS took a slight lead over BBH’s 39-38. Just when you thought GBS had taken the lead Justin Stribling answered with his own 10-0 run consisting of two 3’s and two dribble drives. BBH’s had regained the lead at 48-41 with seven minutes remaining.  Rishawn Davis pulled GBS within three when he completed a behind the back opposite hand layup. Each team again traded baskets. Then Lou Russo hit yet another big three to pull GBS within three at 50-53.  Chris Hand completed a dunk to put GBS ahead 54-53. However, it left plenty of time for Justin Stribling to dribble penetrate and score putting BBH’s back on top 55-54 with 31 seconds left.  Justin came through in the clutch once again and hit two free throws to put BBH’s up 57-54.  Chris Hand went coast to coast in all of 4 seconds to pull GBS within one.  GBS would have one last chance at inbounding the ball from their own end but their desperation shot fell short as Bro’s Before Ho’s won this epic battle 57-56. GBS was led by Chris Hand who scored 14 and Mike Mullane who added 15.  Bro’s Before Ho’s picked up the impressive win behind the play of Keith Brown who scored 15 and the player of the game Justin Stribling who added 17.  GBS did add after the game that they were without their big man Sean Coffey, like the drink just not spelled the same. Ironically enough Bro’s Before Ho’s was without its Captain Tom Dickert who was unable to play due to a Mr. Deeds black foot… Maybe there will be a shot at redemption. Look for these two teams to match up at some point in the playoffs. Until next week…Arrivederci!

Week 5

Marlton League

HK Bombers vs. Hit & Run

This game was a friggin marathon - it took almost 2 hours to complete this one with over 30 runs scored between both teams. In the end, Hit & Run bested the HK Bombers 25-12 to improve to 3-2 on the season. The HK Bombers dropped to 3-2.

Hit & Run jumped on the HK Bombers early with a 2 run homerun by Mike Powell. It looked as if the HK Bombers would bounce right back in the bottom of the inning when Mason Stewart beat out an infield single (I’m surprised he didn’t bunt). That was all the offense they could come up with in the inning and they were down 2-0 at the end of the first.

Joe “Cargo Pants” got things going for Hit & Run in the 2^nd with a circus-slide into 3^rd base and then went on to score on one of many errors on the day for the HK Bombers. The HK Bombers had something going in the bottom half of the inning when they worked 3 walks to load the bases with no outs. They probably should have scored on a sac fly to left but for some reason, the runner on 3^rd froze and didn’t attempt to score. Liz Carty then grounded back to the pitcher who went home to first for an inning ending double play.

Hit & Run opened things up a little bit in the 3^rd inning. After Ashley Corcoran flied out to right for out #1, Andrea Harner and Russell “Rusty Griswald” Reese hit back to back singles and scored a run on some more sloppy play by the HK Bombers following another single by Mike Carnevale. Kevin Newell then came up with runners on first & third and hit a shot to 2^nd basemen Mason Stewart who couldn’t handle it and Hit & Run scored another run. Joe “Cargo pants” got himself a base hit up the middle to load the bases for Jerry Martinelli who knocked 2 runs in with a single to left. Hit & Run managed to score one more before the HK Bombers finally got out of the inning. The HK Bombers came up in the bottom of the 3^rd and made 2 quick outs. Mason Stewart came up and tried to weasel his way on by taking a pitch off his leg (at least he didn’t try to bunt this time!) but managed to earn a free pass anyway after taking a few more pitches. An infield single by Chris Szalma scored Mason Stewart but that was all the offense the HK Bombers could muster as Brent Mileski grounded out to end the inning.

Hit & Run got a leadoff single out of Amanda Corcoran in the top of the fourth and managed to get another runner on base on another error by the HK Bombers but couldn’t get any runners across the plate as Eugene Smith settled down on the mound and got out of the inning with no damage done. Courtney Stewart followed a lead off single with a single of her own to put 2 runners on with Eugene Smith coming to the plate who hit a screamer to shortstop for an out but moved a runner into scoring position. Jess Biekiak then snuck one through the left side of the infield which scored another run for the HK Bombers. Liz Carty then fouled out to end the inning and the scoring for the HK Bombers.

The floodgates opened for Hit & Run and they opened up their lead even more in the fifth inning. Eugene Smith walked Mike Powell who scored on a triple by Kevin Newell. Joe “Cargo Pants” hit a blooper to short which he somehow stretched into a double scored Kevin Newell. It looked like the HK Bombers were going to get out of the inning but Eugene Smith & Mason Stewart couldn’t turn a double play which would’ve helped their cause. After the left fielder lost what should have been an easy out in the sun, Mike Carnevale took advantage of the opportunity and knocked in another run for Hit & Run. Ashley Corcoran knocked in 2 more before the inning ended to give Hit & Run a 16-2 lead. The HK Bombers showed some fight in the bottom half of the inning and cut into Hit & Run’s lead. Jerry Altman led off with a walk and 2 outs later, the HK Bombers worked 2 more walks to load the bases for Brent Mileski. The HK Bombers got 4 runs back when Mileski came up huge with a grand slam and another single knocked in another run.

Hit & Run got another run back in the top half of the 6^th on an RBI single by Jerry Martinelli. The HK Bombers couldn’t get much going in their turn at bat in the 6^th and the game finally looked like it might be coming to a close.

The bats of Hit & Run came alive in the top of the 7^thand 4 runs and what felt like 4 hours later, the top half of the inning was finally over. Brad Lidge came in for Hit & Run to close things out and immediately issued walks to Jerry Altman, Bob Sapio, & Mason Stewart to load the bases. The HK Bombers managed to score 6 runs in the inning on a hit by Chris Szalma, a 2 run triple by Brent Mileski, and a single by Shawn Nam. The HK Bombers loaded the bases once again after a single by Eugene Smith but a nice double play by Hit & Run shut the door on the comeback attempt. Finally, this game ended with a score of 25-12 ( I think…..I fell asleep a few times and may have missed a run or 2)

AROUND THE MARLTON LEAGUE: We Got the Runs kept rolling with a big win over Sta-Green Turf Care. The Hairy Koalas kept the Ball Busters in the basement with a 15-9 win. The wheels continued to fall of for PJ's as the dropped to 3-2 with a 9-8 loss to Balls & Knockers.

Prestige Worldwide vs. I'll Hit That

At first glance, I would’ve thought that I’ll Hit that would win this one after seeing their phenomenal matching socks and hats. They were no match for Prestige Worldwide, who was shorthanded with only one girl playing, as they lost 21-6 on a cold windy day.

Dennis Gray started things off for I’ll Hit That with a single to right followed by another single by the #2 hitter – Shay. Jason Speller got on base on a fielder’s choice and I’ll Hit That had 2 men on with one out. Cleanup hitter Rob Jardel came up and popped out to short. Sam followed that with a single to left which knocked in the first run of the day for I’ll Hit That. Jennifer Gola, who was talking some smack on the GDS Facebook page, walked Kevin Lisek to start off the bottom of the 1^st. James Huff-Miller smacked a 2 run homer to give Prestige Worldwide the lead. Dave Rubman, despite his terrible taste in headwear (a mets hat), followed the homerun with a single to right. John Hansen knocked in a run with an RBI triple and Prestige Worldwide scored 2 more before the inning was over.

I’ll Hit That managed to get a leadoff single but Bill Zbrozek was robbed by the 3^rd baseman of Prestige Worldwide which most likely would’ve knocked in a run or 2. Kevin Lisek got another free pass in the bottom of the inning from Jen Gola who also walked the next batter. Dave “Silly Mets fan” Rubman flied out to right but Neal Galletta (who was rocking a Yankees hat…what’s with these NY fans???) picked up his slack and knocked in Kevin Lisek on a line drive to left.

Jen Gola made up for her wild pitching with a single to right field which was followed by a walk to Mike Eng. Dennis Gray couldn’t move the runners but a single one batter later loaded the bases for Jason Speller who singled to left and drove in 2 runs. Rob Jardel then singled to short right to load the bases again. Neal Galletta appeared to have an easy out but he booted a ground ball and allowed another run to score on a groundball by Sam. Newcomer Michelle Crean led off the bottom of the 3^rd with her 2^nd walk of the day – I don’t know if she’s just really patient or just really short. Jim Gagliardi then singled to right center to put 2 on with 1 out for Kevin Lisek who I don’t think swung the bat up until this point in the game. He was probably better off trying to get another walk as he flied out to center for out #2. James Huff-Miller tripled which scored Michelle Crean and Jim Gagliardi who almost caught up to her as he crossed home plate….he’s a lot faster than he looks! Dave Rubman then doubled to drive in a run and then got himself caught in a pickle. He got himself out of it and advanced to third but then got a little greedy and got gunned out at home trying to score. I guess he’s been watching too many Mets games.

The 4^th inning went pretty quickly. After Keith Huggins lead off with a single, Jackie Gola grounded into a double play to Neal Galletta who also caught a pop up for the third out of the inning. Luke “Pink Hat” legged out an infield single and scored on a shot to left field which went over the head of Rob Jardel. Then, Michelle Crean fouled out, Jim Gagliardi lined out to short, and Prestige Worldwide then had to take the 3^rd out for not having enough girls.

I’ll Hit That started a little rally in the top of the fifth to get a little bit closer. Dennis Gray lead off the inning with basehit to left which he stretched into a triple. Shay then followed that with a triple to knock Dennis in. Jason Speller stayed hot with a double which knocked her in. The rally was short-lived as Rob “Rally Killer” Jardel popped up to 2^nd to end the inning. Prestige Worldwide came up in the bottom of the inning and answered right back. Kevin Lisek walked AGAIN, and Neal Galletta came up with the bases loaded only to pop up to the catcher. Luke “Pink Hat” picked him up with a 2 run double. Michelle Crean also walked which loaded the bases for Jim Gagliardi. He hit a dribbler back to the pitcher which should’ve been an easy out. Unfortunately, outs don’t come easy for I’ll Hit That and the ball sailed into the backstop on the throw home and 1 more run scored for Prestige Worldwide before I’ll Hit That finally got out of the inning.

I’ll Hit That came up in the top of the 6^th looking to start another rally. They started off with 2 singles in a row but then Sam tried to sneak home on an error on a potential double play ball only to get thrown out at home. Prestige Worldwide got out of the inning with no runs allowed. Dave Rubman hit a 1 out single to right and then scored on Neal Galletta’s 2 run homer which put the game even more out of reach. John Hansen singled to center and Michelle Crean walked one more time to bring up Jim Gagliardi with the bases loaded. With a chance to mercy rule I’ll Hit That, Gags hit a sacrifice fly which scored 2 runs to end the game and gave Prestige Worldwide their first win of the season.

AROUND THE HAMMONTON LEAGUE: That's What She Said beat the West End Warriors 11-7. Title America edged the Rabid Woodchucks 15-12. Just Us scored 4 TD's and held the Golden Nugget to a field goal in a 28-3 win. The AC Strangers kept themselves in good position with a win over the Wet Beavers. The Golden Nugget avoided getting shut out against ARH in a 30-1 loss in game 2 of their doubleheader....I guess scoring those 3 runs in their first game really took it out of them.

Week 5

Marlton League

SHHHHHHOOOOOOWWWWTIME! Last weeks games featured a matchup between undefeated Showtime and the 1-2 Caucasian Invasion. In a pregame interview with Scott Gottlieb from Caucasian Invasion, when asked what would be the key to success he simply replied with a smile and a laugh. Not much to say! On the other hand teammate Jim Osterhelt commented that the game would be determined by the tempo.

Caucasian Invasion was planning to slow the game down. This plan seemed to be in full affect when Showtime Captain Walt Montford arrived and walked across the court minutes before tipoff in what appeared to be brown fuzzy slippers. I wasn’t sure if he was ready to play basketball or if he was ready to walk down stairs for a midnight snack. Eventually each team was ready and the buzzer sounded. Actually the buzzer sounded multiple times as Glory Days own Mark Denafo was operating the scoreboard or at least he was attempting to. Each team started the game trading baskets. After the first 5 minutes Showtime led Caucasian Invasion 6 – 4. Caucasian Invasions strategy proved to be working. Later in the first half Mike Gottlieb hit a big three to pull Caucasian Invasion within three 17 – 20. Scott Gottlieb would then hit a deep two to make it a one point game at 19 – 20. Showtime in typical fashion would go on a nine to two run led by guard Tim McDanials to close out the half to go up 29 – 21. They are a team of runs! Not to be confused with “We Got the Runs” who plays in GDS Marlton Softball league.
Caucasian Invasion looked to carry their strategy into the second half. Showtime had a different plan in mind. No it was not to conquer the World like Pinky and the Brain. Showtime wanted to press Caucasian Invasion and speed up the game. Showtime came out in the second half like a bat out of hell, like a speeding bullet, like a flash of lightning, or like Barbaro at the Kentucky Derby, whichever tickles your fancy. Showtime would go on a scoring tear. Tim McDanials proved to be too much to handle as he was scoring with ease as he finished with a game high 29 points. Also contributing to the second half surge was that of an unlikely source. Bill Hadik hit four 3’s, one of which was from nothing short of 35 feet. Amidst the commotion of Bill Hadik’s sharp shooting Caucasian Invasions Chris Hastings etched his name into the record books by scoring his first points in GDS basketball. After he scored the basket Chris and teammates proceeded to slap hands, high five, and hug at center court. All the while Showtime quickly inbounded the ball and scored before Caucasian Invasion was done celebrating a center court. At least they had something to celebrate as Showtime went on to remain undefeated with a 71 – 47 victory.

SHOT HEARD ROUND THE WORLD…Nagy hits three with two seconds left! Was it enough to complete the upset? This game featured another undefeated team in the Grizzle Bear Survivors vs. Onions. GBS got out to a quick start led by hot shooting from, well pretty much their entire team. GBS quickly opened up the lead 15 – 5. It was time for sixth man of the year candidate Steve Roberts to check into the game. He entered the game while ripping off his shooting shirt aka gray gap v neck. Rumor has it he went 1-12 shooting the week before. Maybe he should play a game while wearing the shooting shirt if it would help make a difference. Steve struggled again from the floor as did most of the Onions. At the 10 minute mark Onions called a much needed timeout being down 25 – 13. This gave the opportunity for Max (Maximus) Ingram to check into the game. Just what the team needed. The crowd roared and chanted MAXIMUS, MAXIMUS, MAXIMUS…It brought chills to most who witnessed. While Max checked in he shouted, “when a Roman general is betrayed and my team down by 12 points, he comes to the Blue Barn in Marlton as a gladiator to seek revenge.” For your information Max wasn’t wearing a chiseled suit of armor nor was he wearing a hand crafted steel enforced mask when he made his epic entrance. Yet this gladiator was wearing a green Callahan Auto Parts t-shirt and a backwards Philadelphia Eagles cap. I must say I have not seen anyone ever check into a basketball game wearing a baseball cap. That’s kind of like wearing jeans to play Softball (reference to GDS Softball Newsletter). Regardless of his uniform it still had the same impact as it sent fear into the eyes of the Grizzle Bear Survivors. After the crowd settled play resumed. GBS continued to shoot well behind Lou Russo who hit six 3’s and finished with 32 points. Brian Peak of Onions rebutted with a few of his own baskets scoring 14 in the game. At the half GBS had what appeared to be a convincing lead over Onions 55 – 24. The second half started with talks of GBS scoring over 100 points in the game to set a Glory Days record. Andrew Lee of Onions didn’t want anything to do with becoming part of history as he hit two consecutive 3’s in an attempt to chip away at their deficit. Rishawn Davis of Grizzle Bear Survivors went on a scoring frenzy hitting 12 of his 32 points in the span of 2 minutes to increase their lead to 82 – 39 with 10 minutes to play. Just when it appeared that GBS would coast to 100 points Rishawn Davis was poked in the eye by a player on Onions who will remain anonymous. It has yet to be confirmed that the poke was intentional. Play was stopped in search of Rishawn’s contact. In good faith Onions players were on the ground looking for the contact. Just as someone uttered the words there is no way we are going to find it miraculously Onions own Rich Tyburski spotted the contact. One of the better plays Onions had all night. Great teamwork! Only if I could give your team 60 points for good sportsmanship you would have tied. Play once again resumed as Grizzle Bear Survivors continued their great shooting on their way to a 110 – 50 win. This win set two current Glory Days Sports records for most points in a game and largest point differential. Congratulations Grizzle Bear Survivors. Sorry Onions! Someone had to be on the other end of the stick. If it means anything I couldn’t think of a better group of guys for it to happen to.

Week 3

Marlton League

PJ’s vs. HK Bombers

Things started off badly for the HK Bombers and continued to stay that way for them all afternoon as they lost to PJ’s 12-1. An error by the 3^rd baseman of the HK Bombers led to a run and put two more in scoring position for PJ’s. Bob Marchese then hustled down the 1^st baseline for an infield single which scored one more run but PJ’s got a little greedy and the next runner trying to sneak home from third was gunned at the plate for the last out of the inning.

Mason “Doug Glanville” Stewart started off the inning for the HK Bombers with a leadoff popup against pitcher Aubrey Cedrone who had the first of several 1-2-3 innings on the day. The HK Bombers failed to get anything going in the bottom of the first – a story that would repeat itself for most of the afternoon.

PJ’s came up in the top of the 2^nd and managed to get two guys on after a swinging bunt but Mason “Doug Glanville” Stewart came up big with a nice stop to end the threat from PJ’s. Bret Mileski of the HK Bombers showed off his power with a real screamer to short followed by two even weaker grounders back to the pitcher to make six consecutive outs for pitcher Aubrey Cedrone.

In the top of the 3^rd, it looked like the HK Bombers were getting their act together defensively but then Bob Sapio came in to relieve Eugene Smith on the mound and immediately gave up two hits. He did, however, manage to strike out Erin Gallagher for out #2 but his day in the sun was short lived as Bob Marchese blasted a two run double to briefly shut up Mason “Doug Glanville” Stewart’s trash talk. In the bottom half of the inning, Aubrey Cedrone was cruising as she knocked the HK Bombers down in order yet again.

Things got ugly for the HK Bombers in the 4^th inning. A headfirst slide into first for an infield single put 2 men on with no outs. Bob Sapio then made the first of several errors to load the bases. A deep fly to third should’ve scored a run but apparently the runner on third thought that Jayson Werth was in right field. Thankfully, Bobby Whartenby came up and knocked in two runs. Another error led to another run and then the failure of the Jayson Werth clone in right to hit the cut-off man led to a “cut-off” clinic as well as another run. The HK Bombers really surprised the crowd when they went 1-2-3 again in the bottom of the 4^th.

Bob Marchese led off the 5^th inning batting lefty – he should probably stick to righty as he hit a weak fly to right for out #1. Aubrey Cedrone then showed off her skills with the bat with a nice shot up the middle. One batter later, Bob Sapio, who is being investigated for betting against his team, almost started what would have been a nice double play but unfortunately, he threw the ball over the head of the shortstop. Two more errors scored two more runs and by the time the HK Bombers got out of the inning, it was 10-0.

Aubrey Cedrone carried her perfect game into the bottom of the fifth when the weakest move I’ve ever seen broke up the perfect game. Mason “Bush League” Stewart actually squared up and bunted for a single for the first “hit” of the game for the HK Bombers. After this pathetic display, a clearly flustered Aubrey Cedrone gave up another hit. The HK Bombers finally got on the board in the inning when “Bush League” Stewart scored.

PJ’s answered back after the bunt heard round the world and scored another run as the wheels continued to fall off for the HK Bombers. The HK Bombers managed to get one hit in the bottom of the inning but that was about it.

In the top of the 7^th, Bob Sapio was finally pulled and the HK Bombers got out of a bases loaded jam with no runs scored after “Bush League” Stewart made up for his bunting shenanigans with a nice double play. The bottom of the 7^th was more of the same for the HK Bombers as then went 1-2-3 again to end the game.

We Got the Runs vs. Hairy Koalas

     A shorthanded We Got the Runs team continued on their quest for a GDS Title by dominating the Hairy Koalas on Saturday. Pitcher Mike Valenti filled in admirably for Mark DeNafo who was unable to attend the game due to an appointment with Mickey Mouse. He says he went for his daughters but anyone that knows Mark knows what a huge fan of Disney he is.
     The Hairy Koalas gave We Got the Runs a bit of a scare in the first inning and briefly took the lead. The lead lasted until the bottom half of the first when the potent offense of We Got the Runs, led by another Sean Geary 3 run homer, got rolling.
     The Hairy Koalas kept battling throughout the day and forced Mike Valenti to throw strikes - I believe Allison Wisniewski, Amanda Holloway, Michelle Coporale, Megan Zeller, & Elizabeth Atkins - pretty much every girl in the Hairy Koalas lineup worked a walk at one point or another. I'm not sure if Valenti was afraid of them or if he was just trying to be a nice guy.
     The game was pretty close for the first couple of innings but We Got the Runs gradually pulled away over the course of the game. Marcus Meara kept up his usual shenanigans in the field with another throw over the head of the first baseman. He apparently gets nervous whenever the GDS reporter is on the scene.
     As much credit as the offense of We Got the Runs deserves, the outfield of the Hairy Koalas deserves just as much credit - Rhoys Coker, Pierre Cadas, & Chris Seeds all helped contribute in one way or another to the 20 run output for We Got the Runs.
    We Got the Runs looks like they are going to go to 5-0 next week as they have a matchup with Sta-Green Turf Care who is really battling it out with the Ball Busters for control of the basement in the Marlton League. The Hairy Koalas have a "tough" matchup against the Ball Busters next weekend so look for them to bounce back and pick up an easy "W".

Around the Marlton League: Balls & Knockers roughed up Sta-Green Turf Care 7-1 to stay tied for 2nd place in the league. Hit & Run pulled off a big upset over PJ's to knock them back down to earth and out of their tie for first place. The HK Bombers bounced back from the spanking they received last week and beat up on the lowly Ball Busters.

Hammonton League

The GDS reporter was unable to make it to the Hammonton field this week due to a case of disappearing keys but will be attending 2 games next week so bring your game faces!

Around the Hammonton League: ARH continued their domination of the Hammontonians with a 21-5 win over the Rabid Woodchucks. Title America made a statement with a 28-1 win over the Wet Beavers....sounds like the Wet Beavers were a little sloppy. I'll Hit That squeaked out a win over the Golden Nugget 13-11. Just Us beat Prestige Worldwide like a redheaded stepchild 19-4.

Week 3
Thursday Night Division

In the first game of the evening Caucasian Invasion faced OFF ALL NIGHT. This game took place in Turnover City. Five minutes into the game there were more turnovers committed then points scored. The “Mayor” of the city Jim Gagliardi from OFF ALL NIGHT attempted several no look passes, none of which came close to connecting with a teammate. It probably didn’t help that his teammates weren’t looking either. After a sloppy start each team settled down and started playing some Hoosier style basketball.
The speedy Mike Gottlieb point guard for Caucasian Invasion kept the game close in the first half with a handful of assists while scoring 11 points.  Sean McLeod also chipped in with 9 of his own points. However, even in the absence of “Pete Sampras” (nickname for a player on Off All Night provided by Grated Cheese) things started to come together for OFF ALL NIGHT which proved to be too much in the second half. Mayor Gagliardi was able to finally connect on one of his many attempted no look passes to Mike Loser a la Magic to Jabbar. Caucasian Invasion seemed to go soft late in the game which ruined any chance of them beating OFF ALL NIGHT.  Chad Hilliard led the way for OFF ALL NIGHT with 17 points to a 54 – 41 victory.

The game of the night featured a matchup between Showtime and Onions… Well maybe not the game of the night. Just happened to be the one I chose to review. If the game was 10 minutes instead of two 20 minute halves this would have been a real barnburner, shootout, battle royal, fight to the death, photo finish…well you get the point. Unfortunately, for the Onions team Showtime had picked up several key additions during the offseason. Rumor has it that a few players (Neon Boudeaux, Butch McRae, and Ricky Roe all former standouts at Western High School) may have illegally accepted a pair of new Air Jordans, a few baseball cards, sack of marbles, and a dead bird named Petey in exchange to play for Showtime. Showtime team captain Walt Montford will stop at nothing to win a championship. These new additions didn’t seem to pay off in the beginning stages of the game as Dan Nagy kept things close with a barrage of shots from down town to pull Onions within in two…15 – 17 at the 8 minute mark. However, that is the closest the Onions would come to making Showtime cry.  Tim McDanials from Showtime led the team on a 23 – 3 run to close out the half putting them ahead by a score of 40 – 18. Just when you thought the Onions had run out of gas they went on a second half surge led by the play of Andrew Lee who finished the game with 13 points. He probably could have added to that total but somehow managed to hit the ceiling rafters not once but two times.  Dan Nagy continued his hot shooting in the second half as he finished the game with five 3’s for 15 points.
Despite the great play and effort from the Onions team Showtime decided in true fashion to live up to their name. They again went on a run which featured scoring from Tim McDanials, Walt Montford, and Anthony DiEnno.  Tim McDanials led all scorers with 24 catapulting Showtime to a convincing win 70 – 42. Marlton League

We Got the Runs vs. Ball Busters

On a beautiful day to kick off the softball season, We Got the Runs registered a big win over the Ball Busters to start things off on the right foot. Things started off a little slow, partly due to Stephen “Shitbreak” Umosella missing his first at bat and costing We Got the Runs a valuable out. After his return from the facilities, the offense started clicking for We Got the Runs. It seemed as though every player had a hit and scored for We Got the Runs. The Ball Busters struggled offensively against the brilliant pitching of Mark DeNafo whose quest for a no-hitter ended early in the first inning. Offensively, Sean Geary led the way for We Got the Runs with a 3 run bomb to left field which scored Mark DeNafo who said “God, I’m fat” as he crossed home plate. Apparently he did not participate in the off season conditioning program. With a big offensive day, We Got the Runs showed why it’s extremely important to stay hydrated during the game. As impressive as they were on offense, they were just as good on defense, only allowing one run. The only real mistake defensively was made by Marcus Meara who apparently never played 2^nd base before and threw the ball over the first baseman’s head at one point. All in all, it was a great day for We Got the Runs who appear to be poised to make a run for the championship.

That's What She Said vs. Title America

Another great day for softball on Sunday featured That's What She Said vs. Title America. It appeard that That's What She Said was ready to play after their very spirited warmup jog in the outfield but they just couldn’t overcome the big offensive output by Title America. In the top half 2^nd inning, Title America briefly looked like the Bad News Bears after what seemed like an easy out turned into a triple but they bounced back and got out of the inning with no damage done. In the bottom half of the 2^nd, Title America blew up and took over the game with a big inning. That's What She Said threatened to score in the top of the 3^rd but they just couldn’t get it done. That's What She Said sputtered along until the top of the 5^th when they mounted a bit of a comeback led by shortstop Cholly Ruggerio who is also the early leader in “that’s what she said” jokes. Dave Lieerto, who allegedly had a few too many vodka and cranberries Saturday night, made a costly error which opened the door for the big inning by That's What She Said. That's What She Said continued their comeback attempt in the 6^th inning but Dave Lieerto apparently sobered up between innings and made a nice catch to put a stop to any more damage. That's What She Said made one last attempt to come back in the 7^th but Title America’s defense stepped up and made a big double play to end the game. That's What She Said made a valiant effort and made things interesting but in the end, they came up short…..That's What She Said!

Marlton League

Ball Busters vs. Balls & Knockers

The weather was a little cold Saturday but the bats of Balls & Knockers certainly were not as they busted up the Ball Busters 10-0. Rumor has it that the Ball Busters are contemplating a name change to the Ball Bustees after putting up 1 run in the first 2 weeks of the season.

The Ball Busters looked like they were going to turn things around after the week one spanking they received from We Got the Runs when they led off the first inning with an infield single but they promptly fizzled out just as quickly as they started. In the bottom of the first inning, Balls & Knockers also looked to get off to a quick start with a lead off single but, unlike their opponents, they didn’t stop there as Ed Kuhn hit a 3 run homer to give Balls & Knockers an early 3-0 lead.

The Ball Busters tried to get things going in the top of the 2^nd with another lead off single back to the pitcher of Balls & Knockers who failed miserably at his Cliff Lee impression. Dennis Snouffer then followed with a 3 foot bomb (yes, that says 3 foot bomb – it’s called sarcasm) to load the bases for Frank Visconti who grounded out to first to end the inning as well as any chance of scoring a run for the Ball Busters. The bottom of the 2^nd was pretty uneventful except for an exciting error made by the 2^nd baseperson of the Ball Busters.

The Ball Busters managed to get 2 guys into scoring position in the 3^rd inning after a lead off single and a funny hop led to a double but again, they fizzled out as quickly as they started after a towering drive to 2^nd base was caught to end the inning. Balls & Knockers offense stayed cool for another inning but that wouldn’t last very long.

After the Ball Busters put up another goose egg in the top of the 4^th (real shocker there, huh?), Balls & Knockers got things going offensively. A single & a walk to put 2 guys on, and then an error by the third basemen (PJ) led to another run for Balls & Knockers. Yet another error by the center fielder led to a triple and 2 more runs scored. Meanwhile, Sean McGuire pulled off a fantastic ballerina-like move but couldn’t quite stick the landing and another run scored from third to pretty much put the game out of reach.

The top of the 5^th was business as usual for the Ball Busters as they went 1-2-3 and put up yet another goose egg. The bottom of the fifth didn’t feature much offense but the fans were treated to a great Superman impression by Lauren “I am not a” Starr as she tripped on first base to end the inning. Gotta get those knees up, Lauren!

The Ball Busters looked ready to actually bust some balls in the top of the 6^th – they had their rally caps on & everything – but they went 1-2-3 again to keep the goose egg trend alive. Balls & Knockers added a couple insurance runs in the bottom of the 6^th as Sarah Hagan hit a single to left to score a run. Another triple scored Sarah and the score was 10-0 after 6.

The Ball Busters somehow managed to go 1-2-3 one more time in the 7^th to end the game. I would think they’d eventually luck into a hit or 2 but Saturday just wasn’t their day. They did, however, pledge to score a run in next week’s contest against Hit & Run. If I was on Hit & Run, I wouldn’t exactly be shaking in my cleats.

Golden Nugget vs. Wet Beavers

Sunday’s game of the week featured the Golden Nugget vs. the Wet Beavers. It appeared as though team Golden Nugget went a little crazy on the famous Golden Nugget wings Saturday night as they got shellacked 21-1. Seriously, if you don’t want to read further, all you need to know is that this game was a bloodbath.

It looked as if the Wet Beavers were going to be a little sloppy in the first inning as Danielle Scrivani led things off with a single past the bellyflopping shortstop of the Wet Beavers. Golden Nugget managed to load the bases but Jeremy Trowsdale, who made Glory Days history in the 3^rd ining, managed to get out of the inning with no damage done. In the bottom of the first, the Wet Beavers led off with 3 consecutive hits & jumped out to an early lead. Brad Burge then came up and , with the green light on a 3-0 count, hit a 3 run homer to pretty much end the game after one inning.

The top of the 2^nd featured a real display of power by the Golden Nugget as all 3 batters in the inning, Dave Brody, Ashley Bray, & Deanna Oehlert managed to hit the ball just past the pitchers mound for 3 quick outs. After a lead off walk for the Wet Beavers, Betty Arnold hit an RBI single to give them even more of a cushion – not that they needed it. Another walk loaded the bases and Jim Wilde knocked in another run to really kick the Nugget while they were down.

GDS history was made in the top of the 3^rd as pitcher Jeremy Trowsdale became the first pitcher in the history of the game to strike out 3 batters in one inning. John Ozzman became the first strikeout victim. Tony Creta almost became the 2^nd but he saved himself from the embarrassment when he legged out an infield single. Steve Antosky then became strikeout victim #2 and then, just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, Shannon Bray became strikeout victim #3. Trowsdale is probably a lock for the GDS hall of fame after this amazing feat.

Dennis Bradford did his best Brett Favre impression and led off the bottom of the 3^rd with an infield single while wearing a pair of fresh Wranglers. Brad Burge then came to the plate with 2 men on and added to his RBI total with a 2 run double.

Bill Scoleri hit a 1 out single for the Golden Nugget to try to get things going in the top of the 4^th. Brad Burge, who apparently thought that he didn’t have to play defense after knocking in 5 runs, then made a “costly” error to allow the Golden Nugget to score their first & only run of the day. This run really lit a fire under the asses of the Wet Beavers as Betty Arnold and Chuck “Silly Hat” Flood drove in 2 more runs in the bottom of the inning. Kelly McErlean also got in on the action with an RBI single as Steve “Wild Thing” Antosky was walking people and giving up hits like it was his job.

The top of the 5^th was the Golden Nugget’s last opportunity to avoid being mercy-ruled. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get anything going and after 2 quick outs, Tony Creta treated all the spectators in attendance to a nice breeze as he whiffed at a pitch and then grounded out to end the game.

It is a great time to be a member of Glory Days Sports. We have so many plans for 2010. You are going to love the NEW ideas we have! The idea that has GDS the most excited is "The Glory's", the end of the year Awards Ceremony (Dinner, Drinks, Laughs, Glory's and more). This ceremony will be more of a spoof on ESPNs ESPYs than anything else! It will be tons of fun!!! Throughout 2010 we will hold various polls for each Sports League, trying to find out who you think is the best player in that league. Men's Basketball (Marlton)

Glory Days Sports Men's Basketball League is in a full court press. There are some awesome shooters on every team! You have "Hot and Cold" Jason Kacavich of the Burlington Blazers, look out when he is "Hot". Along with teammate Rob Mungo, he reminds me of Barkley on the Boards. Aaron Spellman of Enima, this guy does not slow down for one minute. Smooth moving Mike Valenti of Off All Night, only 1 team has been able to beat Off All Night this season;-). Lewis Russo of Grated Cheese, pushes the ball the entire game. Nick Maldunado of 80% Cotton, our referees say he is a great player (why do they know him by name already???). The injured Elliot Baterman, hurt his ribs but will be back soon stalking the three line for the 67ers. Dan DiGerolamo of the Dunkin Degos proves Italians can play ball too (you hear that Jersey Shore)! There is one guy in our league that is absolutely Lights Out. Walt Montford (captain of Showtime) does not miss a shot all night, from anywhere on the floor, no matter how many hands in his face! He just recently signed up a team for Dodgeball in Deptford, maybe this is your chance guys to get him back for draining 3 ball after 3 ball right in your faces! Dodgeball Season II (Voorhees)

The Tuesday Division featured many new teams and some really hot women (hot women are always worth mentioning right)! Only Sloppy Hairless Chihuahua's played well and represented Season I gracefully! Sweaty Balls (after losing in the championship in Season I) dropped 11 against the somewhat new Balls Of Fury! The returning Vicious Vikings also had a tough night. The fan favorites Pink Panthers went 7-6...I think it is because they had a Full Squad show up...that would have never happened last season! I look forward to getting to know our new teams Balls Out, One Man Wolf Pack, Blue Balls, Sorest Rump, My Balls Your Chin, Posh Car Wash, and the Nads. These teams all performed awesomely! It is rather hard playing a new sport all together against teams that just wrapped up their season. Very impressive performances!

The Wednesday Division welcomed a couple nationally recognized teams, last season's champions, a few other re"tooled" returning teams, and a few new teams (and oh yes the women here are just as hot). First, it is worth mentioning that Ballz To The Wall must have gotten rid of some "Dead Weight" (according to Team Captain Janet Habina) because they went undefeated week 1. Don't worry about what Janet said Deez Balls, did you get what I said about them being "retooled" ? I would rather lose 7 games then play with them too (dems is jokes)! The much loved Gags On Our Balls (Season I Champions) won a tightly fought match from Ballz On Ur Jawz. Did Balls On Ur Jawz have practices this off-season? They looked Awesome...all but when Lou Di Marco was yelling at me about the Ref (no problem Lou I can take it, thank you for not giving it to the Ref, yes he did respect the Zero Tolerance Rule). Gags On Our Balls looked a little distracted. It must have been the "Ring Ceremony" (Hoodie Ceremony) before the games! Nationally ranked Screaming Eagles did not disappoint beating a returning but name changing Sweat Pants Boners in all but 1 match. Returning team Ball Busters looked liked they attended the same Dodgeball Clinic as Ballz On Ur Jawz, they beat our other crowd favorite Jean Shea's BallDawgs. Now, it is no secret BallDawgs may be a little older than average age in our league but the well kept secret (up to that point) was on display for everyone to see Wednesday Night. They can play! Look out all you snot nosed kids!!! After playing their first ever Dodgeball game, they didn't even break a sweat (I mean a hip)! Jay Cassario's Bearded Clam, I mean Clams, look to be one of the biggest teams in our league! Jay, I like the deviation in team name from the common "Balls" something! Thank you! They beat our other nationally recognized team Python Tamers. The Red Rockets, Deez Ballz, and Cojones Del Fuego wrapped up our new teams. Red Rockets won a very close match against Deez Ballz due to the awesome play of team captain Matt Witkowski! Paulino Apistar captain of Cojones Del Fuego looked to be more of a movie director than Dodgeballer. He had one of his players (Jovian Yoh) wear a helmet cam during play. The video turned out AWESOME, their record...not so much! Don't worry "Balls of Fire" (the English conversion, I think) you played a team that was "retooled"!!!

I know the G.D. Newsletter hasn't been written as much lately. Glory Days Sports has been hard at work getting more sports, at more locations, to serve you all the best we can. If everyone really wants, we can make sure we do the G.D. Newsletter at least 2 times a month. For those of you that do not know or just got out from under a rock, The G.D. Newsletter is "Sure to Entertain"! We poke fun at everyone and everything...it is all in the name of Fun! If you don't want to have Fun...don't read it!

Basketball Week 1

The past week started off not so awesome for Glory Days Sports. At least in our opinion, with the standards we have set. We have now started our 1st ever Men's Basketball League, located at the "Blue Barn" in Marlton. Games began Sunday night. While everyone definitely had a great time, Glory Days Sports had problems. The night began when the crew of 4 (really 3) were Car Jacked at the Super Wawa by a women in a ski mask! This chick was a Grendel look alike...and not the Angelina Jolie type either! She grabbed Mark DeNafo by the hair (haha) and tossed him aside. As she peered over, Nick Gargano jumped on her back and tried to wrestle her to the ground. To no avail, his efforts just stirred this crazy beast further. With one fell swoop, she tossed him aside. Directly on top of Mark, his face to Marks b#$ls (a rather precarious position for both)! As Jamie Connor made his move, to do what neither Mark nor Nick could do, fight this nasty beast and regain their manhood, the beast started laughing hysterically. "What? What? Why are you laughing", Jamie says. Grendel smirked, "I won't hurt you little guy. I already feel bad for what I did to you parents. Look at them over there caressing each other!" "Good Luck with Adam and Steve...", she said as she drove away with my minivan (basketball rules were in tow, Oh no the rules!!!!!!!). You may have noticed our other partner Matt DeNafo wasn't with us. Yes, for some reason he was off wondering aimlessly through Wharton State Forest. Damn Tree Huggers! (The previous story was not concocted in any way to cover for Glory Days Sports few mistakes on Sunday Night. I bet they don't get Car Jacked again...I bet the rest of the basketball season runs like a well oiled machine...I bet our 4 hour last meeting solved the problems...all about the car jacking of course.)

Glory Days found the rules laying on the side of the road on the way home. We will be sure to bring them starting week 2.

Dodgeball Playoffs

Wow! What an amazing night last night was! It started with an amazing feeling of tension in the air. Everyone noticed it...who was going to raise their level of play and win the "Glory".

(MEET GLORY)

The first set of games found Ballz On Ur Jawz beating the Pink Panthers in a tight match. The Pink Panthers played the entire night one player short, and almost pulled off the impossible. Jay and Dave DiBartolomeo, Charlie Miller, and Paul Leech were playing out of the craniums! Lou Di Marco, the Captain of Ballz would not allow that to continue all night. He rallied the troops and moved them to the second round, where they would have to face Gag On Our Balls. This was a battle that even the teams' namesake could not over shadow (The Battle of BJs). Ballz jumped out to an early lead up 2-0 against the undefeated Gags squad. You could see the tension wrought all over the Gags faces. They really turned the heat up at that point. The Alber trio (Matt, Brian, and Kelly) made some terrific plays to get their team back in it. The couples then finished the Ballz off (Adam-Nikki and Jamie-Kori). Raising Gags squad to the championship.

Over on the other court, Sweaty Balls finally had a full team for the always fun Balls Deep team. Matt Logan, Chris Deal, Kahlee Metzger, Allsion Conover, the always colorful David Magazzo, even Matt Tippin , and the entire Ball Deep team were by far our most entertaining crew all season long. The have that youthful exuberance that allowed them to stand apart from everyone else! Most teams took their crazy antics as immature and threatening. That is only because they did not know Balls Deep like Glory Days knows them. A great bunch that is out here for the same reason everyone else is...FUN! They made the most of every night too. Well except tonight...Sweaty Balls sent them back to school with a final match victory. The next game matched the Sloppy Hairless Chihuahuas against the Sweat Balls. Right from the start the tension present for this game showed through. Both teams were very evenly matched (mouth for mouth). During the season the yapping little dogs only lose came at the hands of the killers (Gags On Our Balls). They were very surprised at the match they were given by Michael Valenti, Mike Loser, Sean Geary and the rest of team Sweaty. Captain Jackie Levins of the yapping little dogs even tried to distract the referees while her team bite at the heels of team Sweaty. Not going to happen with Ref "Big" John Kelly at the helm. He kept the game from losing control and reigned the teams back in. Sharon DeNafo was a force in the victory for the Sweaty Balls...must have been her soft hands...catching every ball that swung by; while Sean Geary dropped the hammer with that cannon of an arm to end the night for Sloppy Hairless Chihuahuas. They then left immediately and missed an amazing championship.

The Championship was fought hard by both teams right from jump street. Gags On Our Balls knew to not take this Sweaty Ball team lightly. Sweaty Balls played as good as they could but 2 prior games proved to be too much. Sweat Balls was an understatement when you looked at this squad midway through the championship. Again, the rocket arms of The Alber Brothers, Jimmy Gags himself, Matt, Adam, Guy, and Jamie just over powered everyone. After wearing the Sweaty Balls down the Girls of Gags finished the job. Kelly and Nikki were ducking and dodging, gathering balls and supplying their teammates. Then Kori Goerlitz did all the diving. Making 2 amazing catches in the last match on key players of team Sweaty (Jay Cassario and Mark DeNafo). That was it the match ended, with Adam flying on to the court, carrying Glory with him! Congratulations Gags On Our Ball Winter 2010 Dodgeball Champions! A special thanks to Sweaty Balls for taking their lose with such grace. Good sportsmanship is a cornerstone of Glory Days Sports and you made us look great!

Special Thanks goes out to all our players that did not make the playoffs and came to watch and hung out until the end of the Championship! Awesome guys Thank you Ball Busters, Foul Balls, Big Ballers, Sea Shepards, and Vicious Vikings! We are glad you guys joined in for one last night of Season 1! Sea you all next season!!!

Dodgeball scores hit with adults in region

VOORHEES — South Jersey residents are getting a chance to relive their school days through dodgeball, a popular sport played over the years in gym classes across the country.

Glory Days Sports, based in Winslow, started an adult dodgeball league at the Virtua Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees in early December.
The coed league has games on Wednesdays between 7 and 9 p.m. during the roughly 10-week season, said Matt DeNafo, president of Glory Days Sports.
"We've done coed softball, a wiffle ball tournament and a kickball tournament, but this is the first time we're offering dodgeball," DeNafo said. "We have 12 teams this year, and each team can have up to 10 members."

Dodgeball makes a comeback!
DeNafo said the league costs $500 per team, which includes team shirts. The game is played by having six players from each team on the court at one time.
Six balls are lined up along the center of the court, and when the game begins it's a race to grab as many as you can. DeNafo said the players then toss the balls at the opposing team, and if the players are hit, they're out.
The team with the most players left on the court at the end of each six-minute game wins. If a team gets every player on the opposing team out before the time limit, they win. DeNafo said each team plays about 10 games a night.
"I think the movie "Dodgeball (A True Underdog Story)' brought a lot of the popularity back," said DeNafo, referring to the 2004 movie featuring Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller. "Everyone remembers those days when you used to play back in high school."
What attracted Bordentown Township resident Chris Prendergast to the game was a chance to keep active and get together some friends and neighbors for a competitive but friendly game.
Prendergast, the team captain for the Bordentown Pink Panthers, said he heard about the league after playing softball with Glory Days Sports.
"I'm 33 years old and I'm trying to remain active," Prendergast said. "I think anyone can enjoy dodgeball. In high school it was always fun, and you don't even really have to be athletic."
DeNafo said the league is one that encourages both sexes to get involved, and at least two men and two women from each team must be on the court during a game.
The games are played by a strict set of rules, which forbids things like throwing a ball at someone's head or stepping out of bounds.
Michael Valenti, a Winslow resident, said he played softball with Glory Days Sports in the past. Valenti is team captain for the Agile Giants, a team that has several players as tall as 6 feet 5 inches.
"The league is competitive but also fun," Valenti said. "You don't have to be an avid dodgeball player to play in the league. It's just people looking to have a good time and share some laughs."
DeNafo said with so much interest in the dodgeball league, he'll consider offering another league after this one ends.

Alright, alright easy with all the emails. I need a day or two, to organize my thoughts from the deluge of stimuli taken in each Wednesday night at Glory Days Sports Dodgeball League. For those members new to Glory Days Sports, the G.D. Newsletter "Sure to Entertain" has created quite the "cult" like following! Without exaggeration, I have counted at least 7 different [let's call them Groupies], propositioning me by email. I feel like a rock star of some sort. Kind of like "The King of the Keyboard" (pulling more tail than Elvis ever did). Okay, so maybe it's not exactly "tail" I am pulling but can't a married guy with 4 daughters dream a little? All joking aside, most weeks, I will get the G.D. Newsletter out Friday or Saturday during the Dodgeball season. No need to send the dozen emails, asking "...when will it be done already...", creating more pressure on me.

Week 2 of Glory Days Sports Dodgeball League: It was Awesome!

Now to the games:

1. In our porno match, Gags On Our Balls slaps around Balls Deep. 10-3

2. Foul Balls starts their double header (you have a dirty mind) strong beating Big Ballers. 9-4

3. The Sloppy Hairless Chihuahuas bite the Ball Busters. 10-3

4. Sweaty Balls drip (I mean drop) the Sea Sheppards. 8-5

5. Ballz On Your Jawz choke out the Submissive Vikings (oops Vicious). 8-5

6. Pink Panthers are able to straighten out the Foul Balls. 7-6

All of the matches were were extremely exhilarating! The pace of play is so fast and hard it is difficult to take notes of all the drama occurring. It was certainly a lot easier writing witty nuggets of wisdom for the Glory Days Sports Coed Softball League or the Glory Days Sports Wiffle Ball Tournament, than it has been for the Glory Days Sports Dodgeball League. Just click on these couple write ups to witness the excellence of penmanship. The one with the Tea-bagging Umpire (a fan favorite) or the one with Mr. Happy Our Wiffle Ball Champ (our biggest Tournament to date). They were absolutely awesome. I think you all can help with my dilemma though.

I need a little more theatrics from all of you. That's right Dodgeball is not just a game to win or lose, it's a stage to express yourself! I will be grading the teams each week on creativity and originality. What am I looking for, you ask? It is very easy. Just wow me! That's right Wow Me (or send over the groupies)!

Right now, Balls Deep is leading this category. They have come each week with their headbands and their knee pads, sporting the look straight out of Dodgeball The Movie. This team of snot nosed college kids put on a great show. Don't mistake their yelling at the refs as a competitive nature, it's all part of their master plan. To be chosen, "Most Entertaining Dodgeball Team" at the end of the season. They could care less about wins and loses; as reflected by their 13 and 22 record. Keep up the good work Balls Deep and don't worry, if you mix in a win or two from time to time, I will not hold that against you!

So remember, Wow ME!

***Rules Further Explained***

1. A clean block is a play in which you use your dodge ball to block the thrown dodge ball of your opponent. You must maintain full control of your ball (do not drop it or you're out) after the ball is blocked. You must not allow the thrown ball to hit any part of your body, only your dodge ball. Also, the blocked ball remains live until it hits the ground or such. That means if it is then caught by your teammate, the thrower is out or if it hits you teammate the teammate is out. Just remember that the blocked ball remains live.

2. The Referee Fee of $10 must be paid prior to the start of the game. The referees have been instructed to NOT start the game until both teams have paid. That will save us from chasing teams down after the game. Thank you.

Join us all at Applebee's on rt 561 (cut right through the movie theatre parking lot) for after Dodgeball Cocktails and Grub. Glory Days Sports is currently in talks with Applebee's on cutting a deal for us Dodgeballers every Wednesday after the games. If we overwhelm them this week, I am sure negotiations will be much easier. Thus the deal we all get will be awesome! See you there.

G.D. Newsletter "Sure To Entertain" 12th ed. The Start of Dodgeball

Glory Days Sports newest attraction, Dodgeball was under way and in full force on Wednesday night at The Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees. The evening began with a Captains Meeting just off the court where all the excitement was soon to ensue. During this meeting of minds, (some of the most creative people in South Jersey, well creative with their team names that is) captains were introducing themselves to each other with some small talk but mostly anticipatory stares. If looks could kill, I am not sure everyone would have made it out of that room! I did though, over hear some chatter that was very interesting and must be reported. It went something like this...

"Hi how ya doin I'm Ed of the Ball Busters." "Oh, hi I am Matt of Balls Deep. Nice to meet you." Then Ed leans over whispering to his co-captain Kelly so Matt doesn't hear, "Balls Deep! That sounds like it really hurts!" Ed entering back into conversation, "Say Matt, where did that team name come from?" Matt grimaces then points and says "That's a question you should ask them." His finger menacingly pointing towards Adam and Jim, team captains of Gags On Ur Balls. "Hey Adam, what's with the deal with Balls Deep?" Adam gargles "argh argh argh." Ed leans back to Kelly and whispers again, "Oh, I see. Poor guy."

Glory Days Sports management quelled the tension by starting to go over the league rules and player expectations in regarding referees. This went on for a few minutes. As Mark DeNafo of GDS wrapped up his speech, all eyes peered at the clock. Everyone was now bubbling with excitement as the clock read 7:00 pm; Time to get started.

Everyone rushed out of the room and headed straight to their respective court. All of the refs individually called together their two opposing teams, went over a couple more things and then surprisingly Bruce Buffer of the UFC falls out of the sky and exclaims, "LET'S GET READY TO RUUUMBLEEEE!" Wow, Bruce Buffer kicking it off! Glory Days Sports really knows how to get things started!

Unbelievably awesome, fast paced action was the story of the night. Was it the adrenaline rush for the start of the first ever Dodgeball League in South Jersey? Or was it the perfectly chosen setting of The Flyers Skate Zone after months of research by Glory Days Sports? Probably, a little of both mixed in with teams comprised of players that are some of the finest athletes in all the land! I mean that! Did you see the players of Sweaty Balls? These guys look more like NFL Linebackers. All of them about 6'3" with bodies tighter than the lips of the Sloppy Hairless Chihuahuas (the opponent of Balls Deep on Wednesday night of course).

The evening could not have gone any better. It appeared that every single person involved had smiles on their faces. Running around, dodging, ducking, diving...it was AWESOME!

We look forward to an amazing first season with everyone. Please bring the same excitement every Wednesday.

***Rule Changes***

1. A neutral zone will be implemented starting week 2. During the "rush" at the start of each game, players will now be required to retreat back after grabbing a ball, to the neutral zone line (it will clearly marked and explained before the start of the next games) before throwing at your opponent. This line is only in play during the "rush". Once a player returns back to this line play resumes as before.

2. More official games will be played each night. Instead of the 9 games per night we originally had, we will now be playing 13 games per night.

3. "Pinching" is illegal. The act of squishing or squeezing a ball excessively before you throw it. A referee will use their judgement and call you out, if you are seen Pinching a ball.

Week 2 of Glory Days Sports Coed Softball Fall Season was awesome! Do you know why? It did not rain!!! After 2 rain-outs in the first 3 weeks, everyone started the day off happy to get some games in. Not everyone left after their game (or the spectators seats; tongue-in-cheek) so happy though.

One local guy was watching the second set of games with a couple of his amigos. They must have been knocking a few cervazas back, when Rosco Pico Train rolled up! Rosco impounded their vehicle and arrested the most inebriated of the bunch. Let that be a lesson to all you drunkards out there (definitely not team “Here For The Beer”).

Now To The Scores:

Games 1 & 2
Buttermakers lose two to Title America. 12-1 and 22-9.
Highlights- Chrissy Kalani of Title America writes: Strong bats from newbie’s Rick Watson and Carmen Midili along with veteran Kim Brodbeck who went 2-4 including a double. Yea girl power! (Hey now) Yea that girl power continued with a hot bat from Kellie Adamucci in the second game; and her husband Ricky and brother Mike Earling continue to beat the crap out of the ball. Wow they must of took lessons from Kellie. Alicia of the Buttermakers writes: Kyle almost went the cycle, missing a homer by *this much* Nick made some fabulous (love the word fabulous Alicia) catches out in the outfield. Both (ours and theirs) the 3B's made some fantastic plays out there. Thank you Chrissy and Alicia!

Game 3& 4
JM & Sons drowns Dazzy O’s “Here For The Beer” 19-5 and 17-8.
Highlights- John Miller of JM & Sons rebuts, I mean reports: Last week’s G.D. Newsletter states we have some semi pro players. We won both of our games last week against the Buttermakers with absolutely no semi pro players! (you and everyone else John) This week both Brian and Dan had inside the park Home Runs! Tara was great, she went 7 for 8 on the day! Jonelle of Here For The Beer says: ........ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! (Jonelle was hung over and did not make either game) Thank you John and uh Jonelle kinda!

Game 5 & 6
Dazzy O’s “Team Awesome” win two tight games against Burlington Blazers. 8-3 and 9-8.
Highlights- Megan of Burlington Blazers writes: 1st game we started off with a couple errors in the outfield that wound up costing us some runs. Team Awesome led by great defense and key hitting, was able to handle us 8-3. Amidst all the excitement in the game, there was one spectator (one of the 3 Amigos) that didn’t have quite the great day. He was arrested on the scene when the police arrived for apparently being intoxicated. Hope things work out for that guy. 2nd game was a different story. Defensively the corners were great, turning two and picking everything out of the dirt. Offensively 3b bob betler started the game with a 2run double and later had a 2 run inside the parker. jessica bienick pitched a great game, but when it got late the strike zone seemed to shrink. (it happens to the best of us Jessica..usually guys though) Walking a number of batters late led to team awesome to go up by 2 and winning by 1 on a play at the plate to end the game 9-8. Flipper of Team Awesome text’s: Dustin was awesome today. (thanks for elaborating Flip!)

Game 7 & 8
TriState held off Just Us. 8-3 and 14-12.
Highlights- I was playing in these games so I will be doing the reporting (well I actually sat the first game…I kept telling myself to be a team player and keep my big mouth shut…look what happened to the last second baseman). These 2 games were highlight by 1 unique play and 1 unique 1st baseman. The Play: 2 men on (1st and 2nd base), 2 out, bottom of the 7th inning, perfect game on the line, the ball is hit right back to pitcher Mark DeNafo. He scrambles to retrieve the ball, stumbles, bumbles, fumbles to grabs the ball, under hand tosses it to third base. He throws it completely wide. The ball hits the fence and 2 runs score!!! Ok so the details may all be exaggerated or completely wrong but you get the idea…an under hand toss to the fence for Pete’s sake from about 10ft! The Player (Ron “Angelina Ballerina”) 1st baseman for Just Us: He does an actual split (I mean balls in the dirt split) on every single throw to first! From a runner just getting out of the batter’s box to to a runner turning to come back to 1st..he doing the split on every catch, close play or not! When you play Just Us next, ask Ron to do the “Balls in the dirt” for you, it is most entertaining!

Warm greetings to all new and returning players of the Glory Days Sports Coed Softball Fall League! Glory Days Sports would like to welcome three new teams to our league: Burlington Blazers, JM & Sons Landscaping, and Just Us. We would also like to thank returning teams Dazzy O’s Team Awesome, Dazzy O’s Here for the Beer (formerly Green Monsters), The Buttermakers, and TriState (formerly LawnKrafters). Good luck to all and remember we are all here to have fun!

That being said, this (The G.D. Newsletter “Sure to Entertain”) is one of the venues we have huge amounts of fun with. We will continue to write a weekly recap of the games from the prior week. This recap will include any highlights and low lights that we witness or are given information to. I personally invite as much information from all team captains, all players, all spectators, and even umpires; as this will only make the writings more interesting and compelling to read for all. Week 1 of the Glory Days Sports Coed Softball Fall League was absolutely awesome! One newcomer team was surprising some and other newcomers felt the wrath of the Spring League mainstays. Some teams can add new players or change their change their team name (rather eloquently so, might I add) but a leopard never changes his spots. One team seems to have found the “Fountain of Youth”, one found (payed off) some Champions, and luckiest of all TriState found me!

Now To The Scores:

Games 1 & 2
Buttermakers lose two to JM & Sons Landscaping. 21-0 and 4-3.
Highlights- Team Captain, Alicia Buttermaker chucks her team scorebook after one of several disputed calls (nice throw but please make note GDS only provides 1 score book to teams per season). Plan B: JM & Son’s Landscaping has stocked their team with a few ex-pro and semi-pro players. I guess knowing all the umpires (Plan A) was not enough. One player in this game (remaining nameless, only because we don’t know it though) hit an awesome triple, then on the very next play runs to the plate to score a run! Rules…Rules…Rules…go to the bag or your out.

Game 3& 4
Title America double up on Just Us. 14-13 and 23-9.
Highlights- After the long anticipated start to the Fall Season, Frank Adomaitis of Just Us appears to have broken his finger on one of the first plays of the season. We hope you are felling ok…soooo are you hurt or are you injured, the rest of your team wanted to know. Carmen Midili and Ricky Watson bring that much needed (let’s just say youthful energy) to Title America. The mercy rule was needed to end this debacle in the second game. Look out folks Title America is looking rather “fresh”!

Game 5 & 6
Dazzy O’s “Here for the Beer” welcomes Burlington Blazers with a sweep. 16-1 and 11-9.
Highlights- The Green Monsters change of their team name to “Here for the Beer” is rather apropos. Their MVP on the day was Catie Scardino for turning 4 double plays (sounds freaky to me)! Gilligan and Galletta (sounds like a Law Firm) each hit an in the park Home Run. Ashlee Galletta continues to be one of our leagues most outstanding players ! ***Burlington Blazers did not forward any comments and my game was at the same time on the other field. Please note this will happen to 1 game every week and I could use all the help I can get with some information. Thanks again.***

Game 7 & 8
TriState and Dazzy O’s “Team Awesome” are the only split on the day. 29-22 and 5-7.
Highlights- Matt DeNafo and Jamie Connor (commissioners) make their debut memorable for TriState. Right from jump street Jamie was pissing off people by stealing the second base position from teammate Alex Gordon! Next, Jamie lets a routine pop up drop right by his head, without even getting a glove on it (pissing off their extremely, intense pitcher Mark DeNafo)! Conversely, Matt DeNafo was stellar at third base and at the plate…hitting the most unheralded home run ever! No one even noticed! Jamie’s second baseman counterpart Kendall Patton (that’s right, a former ARH player from the Fall League) was as hot as ever Saturday! She also played well, catching anything hit her way and hitting the hell out of the ball…right down the third base line every time, for future reference. Kevin Curcio (also a former ARH player…I see a trend forming) started off as Awesome’s pitcher but was yanked after letting in just a couple of runs…must not be pitching to Team Awesome’s standards. Awesome also scored a Heggan (about half of the ARH squad was Heggans) this season. They did though think they were getting Spring League Standout Ricky Heggan…sorry Flipper, Ricky will be back in the Spring of 2010…collecting his players too, I am sure!

On Saturday Glory Days Sports
hosted their 1st ever "Backyard Classic" Wiffle Ball Tournament. This proved to be an AWESOME event and will be held annually for all to enjoy.

The day began with teams filing in around 9am to register. The early chatter overheard at the registration desk was all about the setup of the fields. 9 Wiffle Ball fields setup with everything from Backstops, Strikeplates, Fully painted foul lines and infield lines, to the Home Run fence complete with the yellow Foul Poles! 8 Fields for all of the games and 1 Home Run Derby Field, sprawled uniquely over a 4 acre piece of land. The L shape land design wrapped tightly with trees all around allowing for wind protection too. The huge castle park playground, directly adjacent to the registration desk, never lacked children running and playing throughout the day. The HotDog guy ended up selling out of all of his goodies (hotdogs, soft pretzels, water ice, several varieties of drinks) by early evening too! A lot of work from Glory Days Sports really paid off BIG!!!

After registering, teams started claiming fields for some early practice. That is when they first experienced the sound of the now famous "Strike Plate" design by Glory Days Sports! A Wiffle Ball thrown as a strike would hit the "strike Plate" and let everyone know (fields away) of that batters ineptitude! We have been told, players would later hear this wildly loud sound in their sleep all night. While hard to put in to words, the sound falls somewhere between 2 Mack Trucks colliding and the implosion of Veterans Stadium! It was extremely loud, somewhat high pitched, and extraordinarily memorable.

The next unbelievable audible energy experienced, came from field 5 during warm ups. ARH (our Spring Coed Softball Champions fielded an awesome team of 5) was taking batting practice, when all of a sudden "PING"! Heads jerked from one end of the acreage to the other. All gawking towards field 5. Then again, "PING"..."PING"..."PING"! Players rushed the registration desk, asking about the legality of that bat. ARH was sporting an aluminum bat! Completely legal, this bat is manufactured by Wiffle and shows ARH is serious and has come for only one thing...1st Place!!!

As play progressed all the buzz was about some of the younger players that entered the tournament. We had a squad from Medford, if you added all their ages together, they may just be equal to that of say a Tom Daddazio (these kids were awesome though)! Atco Fence and The Hammonton Allstars both had young players that put others to shame too. An ex-minor leaguer by the name of Dom Raio couldn't even crack his own team's lineup due to his team's young fellow. Pappy's Pupils, consisting of the other elder statesmen of our tourney (Chris Caprio), pitched for an amazing bunch of disciples. They made it all the way to the semifinals!!!

When the smoke cleared, only two teams remained standing, the behemoth ARH and the wiffle gurus of SJ Hazmat. This was no surprise to anyone that played either of these teams throughout the day. ARH (Champion of Glory Days Sports Coed Spring Softball) cherry picked captain Ricky Heggan, bombers Gregg Silvesti and Rob Vetesse, Johnny Walker Jones and the little known Chris Ezzi. We believe almost the entire team pitched throughout the day but Heggan and Jones were spotted between every game sanding their wiffle balls. These guys were serious I tell you!

Unfortunately not serious enough! Serious is the understatement of the year when witnessing the master piece of a Hal Mitchell performance! This dude stared daggers at every batter, all day. I watched one player spontaneously combust under Hal's gaze! At no point, did he crack a smile or enjoy a moment of the entire day. I promise you he was all business! Just look at his picture above with his trophy!

Trophy??? That's right SJ Hazmats outlasted ARH under the tutelage of Hal Mitchell, Dave Mitchell, Chris Hunt and Mitchell Young. These guys play Wiffle Ball every Saturday in Hal's backyard! Correction: SJ Hazmat play Wiffle Ball in Mitch Young's backyard every Saturday not Hal's. Rumor has it, they all have the Hazmat symbol of 3 wiffleballs tattooed on each of their butts too (the left cheek of course)!!! Thanks for the exclusive information Nick Gargano!

The first week of playoffs for the Glory Days Sports Coed Softball league was... you guessed it- Awesome! Awesomely boring!!! Not one upset. All of the favorites move on and join ARH in round 2.

Speaking of ARH, did anyone notice Kendall Patton and Tony Burton scouting The Green Monsters on Sunday! Don't worry, while they were watching you, we were watching them (pictured above)! Taking this seriously are we? ARH is the real deal! I am personally placing an "all in" bet that they win it all come Sunday!

Very risky prediction you say? Maybe I am not going out on much of a limb here, (who am I kidding, this "limb" is more like a tree trunk, an oak tree trunk) but do remember, one of my partners at Glory Days Sports is a pitcher for The Lawnkrafters. He has personally assured me ARH will not have a cake walk if they play each other in the championship! Go get them Mark (sorry for that forward looking statement Team Awesome and Green Monsters)!

Game 1

LawnKrafters use the mercy rule to finish The Blue Jays season 16-1.

Highlights- Guy of the Lawnkrafters was starting all kinds of trouble with Glory Days Sports best behaved Carty brother! Chris Carty, please flush your roster down the toilet and rename your team for the Fall Season (name suggestions: Resurrection-"The team that's back from the dead", Blue Balls-"your team never seems to get off", Redemption-"you guys have a lot of reconciling to do"!

Game 2

Team Awesome trounce the Buttermakers 19-4.

Highlights- Other than a dropped ball in the outfield by Nick Gargano, there were no issues with the Buttermakers (go figure)! Just kidding, we are looking forward to the Buttermakers playing this Fall...just replace that Gargano character (Nick not Jamie)! Oh and no metal cleats in the Fall too. Courtney Fernandez of Awesome will do anything to make the G.D. Newsletter...this week she steps in front of a train (a base runner) and gets railroaded! Knocking the wind out of her for several minutes! Flipper pulls her from the game...then starts making moves on her, on the bench! Good luck Mr. Anderson!

Game 3

Green Monster stay hot against Title America (score was not reported).

Highlights- The Green Monsters stay white hot! Moving Forward to a rematch of last weeks drubbing of ARH in the semis. ***Glory Days Sports Coed Fall League Registration Ends August 15th! Teams returning so far Buttermakers, Title America, Dazzy Os, Lawnkrafters, Blue Jays (or some form of them), ARH??? (I think they still want to know they can run the table...not to big on competition I guess...Competition is getting Stiffer, right BJs), and at least one new team (looking rather svelte too)! That's at least 7 teams already!!!

***Wiffle Ball Tournament money is due this coming weekend (to get your FREE T-SHIRT)!!! $25 a player and forms must be turned in. Huge turn out so far...this will certainly be a very fun day!

***All league schedules are always posted on our website; http://www.glorydayssports.net/. In the beginning of the season we provide a schedule that is subject to change...all changes will be up to date on the website (always).

***The Semi Final Games and Championship Game will be this Sunday! Check the website for game times and what field you are playing on. We are looking forward to a huge turn out of spectators for all games! It will be a huge party I am sure!!!

Week 7 of the Glory Days Sports Coed Softball...that is usually how Jamie starts the Newsletter, than he goes on to right something “Clever and AWESOME”. This week, Jamie must have been overwhelmed with scooter rentals because it is now Friday afternoon and still no signs of a newsletter. But what a week it was in Glory Days Sports Softball, I am still wiping the sleep out of my eyes from the “late night” games!

The Green Monsters flipped Glory Days Sports on its head the last week of the regular season! Not only did they show up 45 minutes late to their first game and throw the rest of the games out of whack, but once they finally got to the field they brought their “A” game! With the upset of the season!!! That’s right the SEASON!! The Green Monsters take out ARH and taints their perfect record and then goes on to take out #2 Team Awesome! The BJ’s are still trying to find there “rhythm”, Team Awesome isn’t so “Awesome”, LawnKrafters make a move in the standings, ButterMakers should try horseshoes cause they “almost” won and Title America didn’t look like they were taking any Titles anytime soon!

NOW TO THE SCORES:

Game 1

ARH LOSES to the Green Monsters 14-6.

Highlights- Green Monsters found their bat bag and ARH’s kryptonite at the bottom! Does there really need to be anything added to ARH LOSES under highlights?? Nothing against ARH but who doesn’t love when the underdog wins!

Game 2

Title America tie against Buttermakers 10-10.

Highlights- Yes, a tie! Ties suck but unfortunately we don’t have all the time in the world to play nor do the umpires so no winner at the conclusion of this game, just a tie. A hard fought game by everyone with a little controversy over the same rule! It was stated in the June 9th Newsletter that there would be NO foul to burn. That is the rule period.

Game 3

Lawnkrafters drops the BJs to their knees 13-1.

Highlights- The “Bash Brothers” Adam and Alex from the LawnKrafters each round the bases with Homeruns! Betty makes a stellar play at home plate for a double play. Brian Pino fights global warming with a huge whiff to cool everyone off!

Game 4

Green Monsters continue their giant swatting by beating Team Awesome 10-9.

Highlights- Readings by Flipper is wrong again! Flipper was overheard predicting a Team Awesome victory over the Green Monsters, which was about as accurate as the Heaven Gate’s / Hale Bop Comet prediction. John Sherwood takes a walk with bases load to get a 6 run rally started for Team Awesome, nothing like a STRONG walk to get things going. The rally wasn’t enough to beat the Green Monsters they were still on fire from beating ARH!

Game 5

ARH gets back to business and beats Title America 16-1.

Highlights- Even with Ricky taking it easy on the bases (Anyone that has seen Ricky run knows that he can at least make it to 3rd base on a shot to centerfield, in this game it was only a double!). ARH still managed to rack up 16 runs. Maybe it was to make up for a previous loss to the G.M.? Title America fought hard even though they only had 9 players; maybe they were just strategizing for next week’s playoffs.

Game 6

ARH beats Team Awful (Yes, after having to watch this boring game and your second loss of the day I have renamed the team more appropriately) 14-4
Highlights- Team Awesome was completely falling apart at the seams. John “the rally starter” Sherwood could do nothing but pop out with his mouth “full” this game! Dustin brought the circus to town and put ARH on the Merry go Round for most of the 5th inning with about 30 walks. Meanwhile ARH brings back there super human strengths. Even after waiting around for just about every game ARH shows no signs of fatigue as Kevin Curcio pitches a stellar game brushing off the frustration of their loss to G.M.. Kendall makes a diving play at second and throws out Nello of Team Awesome. Courtney Fernandez…well we just wanted to put her name in the newsletter!!

***Updates

The Coed Softball Fall League looks to be a huge success as well. Glory Days Sports has confirmation from 5 teams already and almost a 6th. The Final Payments for the Fall League is Due AUGUST 15th!!

Week 6 of the Glory Days Sports Coed Softball...(that is usually how I start the Newsletter, than I go on to right something Clever and Awesome). This week, I have to admit, my attitude toward writing the Newsletter, has not been Awesome (as Awesome as typically so anyway). I have come up with a great analogy to explain the circumstance I find myself in.

The "drug dealer and the crack addict". The drug dealer provides entertainment, at least initially to the "s00n to be" addict. Then somewhere along the line the addict no longer looks for the entertainment, they just need a fix. They do nothing but think about the drug itself all the time. This is when the dealer begins to feel huge amounts of pressure to continue to be able to supply the addict...the many addicts that he has created.

To the many G.D. Newsletter addicts out there, here is your fix! Don't make me cut you off.

NOW TO THE SCORES:

Game 1
ARH smokes the Buttermakers 21-7.
Highlights- Not only did Kevin Curcio of ARH knock a HR over the fence but he also pitched an Awesome game (to all the Buttermaker women that is)! He refused to give the guys of the "Bad News Bears" a pitch to hit. To K.C. and the rest of the Sunshine Band, we are catching on to your strategies!

Game 2
Highlighters out shine Title America 14-7.
Highlights- The dance party that Team Awesome put on before the game! Vince and Brian also hit back to back HRs off our leagues finest pitcher! Chrissie I do believe they are figuring that high arch out...time to switch it up a bit!

Game 3
Lawnkrafters take the Buttermakers out to the wood shed 34-1.
Highlights- Brian Pino pitches a gem (only 1 run allowed)! Nick Gargano of the Buttermakers (also our partner at Glory Days Sports) played a stellar 3rd base! SYKE! Balls were eating him up all over the place...from what I gather anyway!!!

Game 4
Lawnkrafters continue their daily onslaught, this time against TnA (Title America) 15-6.
Highlights- Bo Jackson makes a guest appearance at short stop! He not only made a brilliant diving catch in the field but ran up the wall (the Back Stop) after every run he scored (that was several, he told me personally)!!! Scott McBrearty is not only there for your entertainment but he seems to be hitting the hell out of the ball too!

Game 5
Green Monsters shutout the Blue Jays (your team name will no longer appear in bold, you do not deserve it!) 14-0.
Highlights- Benny and the Green Machine's major highlight was reading the schedule! Pitcher of the Green Monsters, Tony mocks the BJs with his hard hat and overall "Village People" look (pictured above)!

Game 6
ARH completely roll over the BJs (how about Dazzy Es in bold instead...e for errors that is) 27-2.
Highlights- Gregg Silvesti hits 2 more bombs over the fence! He then proceeded to remind fellow teammate Ricky Haggen about them on Facebook a couple of days later. Ricky rolled his eyes and clicked the "like this" button; to humor Gregg of course. Then writes me in private and asks me if there is anyway to get this, "...lime-light stealer off my team! I am supposed to be the gosh darn Phillie around here. Look at my baseball pants damn-it!" Sorry Ricky, he is all yours! How does second fiddle sound?

*** The Coed Softball Fall League looks to be a huge success as well. Glory Days Sports has confirmation from 5 teams already and almost a 6th. Teams returning include Title America, Buttermakers, Lawnkrafters, and at least one Dazzy Os team. 1 new team from the men's league prior to our games on Sundays will also be joining us. ARH is almost set to return but just wants to make sure they can win the Championship again (sorry, a bit of foreshadowing there).

*** Sunglasses were left on ARHs bench after the game. The may have been from the game before, as Roger of the Green Monsters was seen donning a pair of feminine glasses.

-the umpire will use his discretion, on the pitchers intent, when walking a guy batter immediately before a girl batter
-if ruled intentional, the girl batter will then have the option to take 1st base or swing away

Glory Days Sports week 5 games were…well not so Awesome for some! Like the LawnKrafters for instance, they had two huge games against teams on either side of them in the standings. Take a guess how they fared. How about the enigma of a team, Blue Jays. They play almost every game tight but just can’t put together some wins. The Green Monsters looked more like the “Bad News Bears” than the Buttermaker (everybody’s favorite team).

With all those losers, someone had to be winning! ARH, Title America, Buttermakers and Team Awesome all went undefeated on the day.

Another winner on the day was Sharon DeNafo (pictured here). She now knows everything there is to know about this umpire. “His positioning is im-pecker-able” says Sharon! After the game, the umpire exclaims, “That catcher has some soft hands!”

NOW TO THE SCORES:

Game 1
ARH cuts the LawnKrafters 15-7.
Highlights- Johnny "Walker" Jones of ARH leads off the day with 3 walks! This dude loves our league so much he fly’s in every Sunday from North Carolina…North Carolina and didn’t even take the bat off his shoulder! We also had another swinging Strike Out, this time by Adam of the LawnKrafters. Thanks for coming out Adam!

Game 2
Buttermakers finally win one against the Blue Jays 9-6.
Highlights- Tim Carty of the Blue Jays, returning from a one game suspension (given to him by his own team) goes 3 for 4...3 for 4 but for the Buttermakers! The Buttermakers were short a player, so his team ever so easily traded him over. Poetic Justice for you Tim…keep up the good work!

Game 3
Team Awesome smokes the LawnKrafters 11-6.
Highlights- Team Awesome thought the rule was a 2 guy minimum for this one. 8 girls was all the LawnKafters could handle! There is still a search for the sniper that shot Kori of the LawnKrafters. While running for a ball in the outfield, she collapses blowing out her shoulder and leg. Her boyfriend had no problem getting to that ball though. Oh yes, he would like to make a public apology for stepping on Kori while she writhe on the ground in pain!

Game 4
Title America hold off the Green Monsters 14-7.
Highlights- Chrissy Kalani with another masterful game at pitcher for Title America, this game she gives up no walks. She sure is a little competitor! I mean big (sorry I slipped). Dave Moderski of “T&A” goes 3 for 3 and then recruited after the game by the Green Monsters for the Fall Season. They love those sweat pants Dave! Speaking of uniforms what was with Ted of the Monsters…dressed for a fashion show with all those wristbands and those J-Lo sunglasses!

Game 5
Team Awesome play the Blue Jays 12-8 (you guess who won).
Highlights- The Blue Jays another game close. Keeping the scored tied at 5 late in the game. Again to no avail though. I have to say the Blue Jays are the best last placed team in our league! Captain Flipper Anderson of Team Awesome says this win is owed to Lynnel Fernandez, “She outplayed her sister Courtney again!”

Game 6
ARH beat up the Green Monsters 11-5.
Copa Joanna (a Fan Favorite) of the Monsters DNP due to “large balls” on her thighs. She did keep great notes of the game. Dave Gilligan make another amazing diving catch in the outfield. Yes, Johnny "Walker" Jones (our Frequent Flyer) makes another guest appearance! This time with 2 more walks! Moving Forward Rentals (Segway Rentals and Tours in Sea Isle City) is now sponsoring Johnny for next week’s walk-a-thon. He should be able to raise thousands of dollars for a charity of his choice!

UPDATES

***Glory Days Sports asks for clarification to the rather unclear “banned bat list” from ASA and RipIt Reaper. Here are the specific answers from the bat manufacturer. The first bat was made illegal to ASA so they made a new bat that meets certifications. Here are the differences between the 2 bats results:

*The ASA legal RipIt Reaper bat has a yellow outlined Skull facing the end of the barrel of the bat.
*The ASA illegal RipIt Reaper bat has a green outlined Skull facing the handle of the bat.

Remember, the reason for the banned bats are strictly for the safety of your fellow players.

***The issue with the umpire on field 1 has been addressed with his superiors.

(for the serious Wiffleballer and Recreational Wiffleballer alike)

Teams: Rosters will consist of a minimum 3 players to a maximum 5 players

When: Saturday, August 8th

Where: PTLM Daniel Calabrese Memorial Park 37 North Central Avenue Cedar Brook, NJ (Winslow Township)

PreRegistration: By Saturday, July 25th (ALL PLAYERS GET A FREE T-SHIRT when preregistered)

Final Registration: Saturday, August 1st

Cost: $25 per player; includes a guaranteed minimum of 3 games, 1 FREE hotdog and 1 FREE soda

Setup: A 32 team tournament. First come first served!!! Approximately 8 fields will be setup with lines all painted in, a Home Run fence, Backstop, Strike Plate, and much more... Glory Days Sports week 4 games were AWESOME!

Before we get into the games let's recap how week 3's Newsletter played out. 1st- I pour my heart and soul into writing and being as creative as possible until after midnight on Monday. 2nd- The 3 other members of Glory Days read it, get nervous that it is too provocative and pull the picture. 3rd- I actually receive a voicemail being berated, cursed, and threatened! 4th- I update the newsletter to make all pantie wastes feel better!

Now, to start this week I am changing the tagline from "Sure to Entertain" to "If You Lack a Sense of Humor...Don't Read Me"! All kidding aside, this Newsletter is just written to have fun with everyone...no one excluded! We specifically asked all teams if they had an issue with it or if anyone personally has an issue with it. To a man (and woman) we received nothing but rave reviews and asked us not to change it one bit. So without further adieu....

NOW TO THE SCORES:

Game 1
NKOTB (I mean ARH) is in town and rocking the Buttermakers 13-3.
Highlights- It would be easy to get on Ricky for sliding in to home (he just forgot he was no longer on the Phillies and this is Coed Softball), so we'll just say he was a single away from hitting for the cycle.

Game 2
Green Monsters eat up the Buttermakers 9-5.
Highlights- After another 0 and 2 day, the Buttermakers are really living up to their name!

Game 3
LawnKrafters out last Title America 8-3.
Highlights- LawnKrafters bench their starting pitcher (Mark DeNafo) and put in their ace in the hole Brian Pino! Brian pitched an amazing game...just ask him!

Game 4
Green Monsters lose a heart breaker to Team Awesome 12-10.
Highlights- The Highlighters left everything on the field for this one. (The previous statement becomes absolutely hysterical once you read further on to the "game of the day"!)

Game 5
LawnKrafters beat the Blue Jays 2-0.
Highlights- Sean Geary showcases his "strong arm". It is a shame second base is no longer in right field! Between the 2 games today, Sean (shortstop) tried to throw the ball 6 times to second...maybe you should stop trying to throw so damn hard and shoot for a little more accuracy Mitch Williams!

Game 6 (Game of the day)
NKOTB (ARH) absolutely annihilate, obliterate, eradicate or just ate Team Awesome 19-3.
Highlights- (refer to Game 4's Highlights for Team Awesome) The "New Kids On The Block" pounded the ball all game. With 3 Home Runs and countless other shots at the fence, (and a bit of foreshadowing) complaints will deluge the blog about Glory Days Sports not enforcing our "Steroid Policy" next. The ARH team is HOT!...(anyone know what a "double entendre" is?)

Updates

***Moving Forward, all umpires will follow ASA rules for foul balls. You do not get to burn one foul ball. A foul ball on the third strike is strike 3. (as per our rule book)

***The Wiffleball Tournament is already going to be a huge hit! Tentatively we have set it for Saturday, August 8th. A Cash Prize will be rewarded!!! More news to follow (hopefully we can submit the finer details by the end of this week).

***If you do not have a sense of humor you should not have been reading this (especially this far down, what if I was going to say something negative about you, then you would be all upset and be like, "I don't want them to make fun of me anymore" and we would have to be all like, "Stop whining" and like "If you don't like it you don't have to play in our league anymore")!

***Glory Days Sports Fall Coed Softball League is now forming! Get your team registered now! All games will be played on Saturdays. We will begin play either the last week in August or the first week in September. To achieve maximum games, all teams will play double headers every week. Spread the word!!!

Week 3 of Glory Days Sports Coed Softball League was really awesome. By the looks of the picture to the right, some of us would not have missed it for anything (even a bathroom break). That is just fine by us...just not right by us, if you know what I mean.

Title America loses their first game of the season to Team Awesome 12-4.
Highlights- Dustin smokes a Home Run over the fence...rumor has it, that it was a routine pop fly with 30 mph winds playing a big part!

Game 2
LawnKrafters barely edge out the Buttermakers 10-9.
Highlights- Jim Casey of the Buttermakers falls face first to the ground on a running throw to first base. Then gives me, my daughter, my niece and nephew, and pretty much the entire crowd the finger (for applauding his effort).

Game 3 (The afternoon rock concert)
Green Monsters beat the Blue Jays 9-6.
High Life (I mean Highlights brought to you by Miller)- John Sherwood of Team Awesome entices NSYNC to make a guest appearance for this quite game. While we do not encourage blasting the radio during the games, it would have been just fine if he had some kind of taste in music!

Game 4
Title America gives the now Bittermakers their second lose of the day by the score of 9-4.
Highlights- Guess who slid (fell) face first in to third base while knocking the wind out of himself...that's right this season's Fan Favorite, Neil Wetzel!

Game 5
ARH remains undefeated after beating the Blue Jays 10-2.
Highlights- The Carty Tandem with great individual performances. Chris swallows everything at short and Pop Carty records Glory Days Sports first ever Strike Out! Unfortunately for the Blue Jays, Ricky Haggen's aggressive approach at the plate also afforded him a 2 for 4 day with a Triple and 2 Runs and oh yes, The Strike Out.

UPDATES

*** Glory Days Sports has a 3 on 3 Wiffle Ball Tournament in the works for August!!! This is going to be AWESOME!!! 50 teams, 1 day, several official Wiffle Ball sized fields, first come first served! CASH PRIZE TO THE WINNER!!!

*** Metal Spikes are prohibited from use during all games. Some players have been wearing them and this must not continue. We do not want to see anyone get hurt from this. Thank you for your understanding.

*** The Coed Softball Fall League will be forming soon. We anticipate a late August early September start. The schedule will be accelerated to get as many games in, in as short of a span as we can. Form your team now!

Week 2 of the Coed Softball League for Glory Days Sports began rather ominously. Over night rain and morning drizzle forced the cancellation of the 11:30am game between ARH and Title America. The rest of the day's schedule put Glory Days Sports management to the test. The "grounds crew" rose to the occasion, by ridding the fields of all puddles, dragging the fields with the tractor, raking all bases and batters boxes, and repainting all lines. All the hard work was worth while, as the rest of the day went off without a hitch.

NOW TO THE SCORES:

Game 1

Team Awesome starts off their double header with a shutout against the Buttermakers 5-0.

Highlights- "Flipper" leads the troops to victory, but then refuses to email over any team stats or highlights from the game. Sorry Team Awesome, see your captain... but nice win.

Game 2

Title America doubles up on the Blue Jays 12-6.

Highlights- Rick Adamucci, Kelly Adamucci and Mike Earling of Title America combine for a 5 for 9 day, while scoring 7 runs and hitting 4 RBIs.

Game 3

LawnKrafters (leaking oil) barely edge out the Green Monsters 16-15.

Highlights- Glory Days Sports needs more information on the Green Monsters energetic catcher! She was by far the MVP for her squad, with stellar plays at the plate and at bat!

Game 4

Team Awesome destroy the Black and Blue Jays 21-1.

Highlights- Had it not been for playing Team Awesome (Tom's team), Tom Daddazio would have pulled Dazzy Os sponsorship from the Blue Jays for such a dreadful outing. Instead, the Blue Jays all got a FREE ROUND back at the Bar.

Game 5

ARH engineers a victory against the early favored LawnKrafters 8-7.

Highlights- Both Ricky Heggan and Kevin Curcio combine to go 5 for 5 with 2 singles, 2 doubles, and a triple! LawnKrafters deeply missed the big, "old" bat of Jim Gagliardi in this match-up!

Glory Days Sports opening day showcased very sunny but windy weather. This setting allowed for quite an exciting and extremely competetive day of softball. To start the season, all teams appear to be evenly matched. This will create a season of tight games and some serious competive natures showing through.

Now to the scores:

Game 1

Title America takes down an ill-prepared Green Monsters squad 10-5
Highlights- Green Monsters sport just 9 players to start their season!

Game 2

Blue Jays were able to outlast the Buttermakers 9-7
Highlights- Blue Jays team captain Chris Carty goes 2 for 3 with a triple off the Shermanator!

Game 3

Buttermakers make a huge comeback to beat Green Monsters 17-16
Highlights- An 8 run inning for the Buttermakers sets the tone!

Game 4 (Game of the Week)

LawnKrafters take out the trash, AKA Team Awesome 13-11
Highlights- Or should we say "Highlighters"...Team Awesome swaps uniforms with local trash men!

We have a few reminders to all Captains and Co-Captains:

-In the event of a canceled game do to inclement weather Glory Days Staff will contact all team Captains of the cancellation.
It will be the responsibility of the team captains and co-captains to inform the rest of the team about the cancellation.

-Game balls will be handed out at the next weeks game. Each team is responsible for one game ball each week.

-Umpire fees are $40 per game, this fee will be split. Each team will be responsible for $20 per game for the umpire fees. In
the event of a forfeit, the forfeiting team will be responsible for the entire umpire fee, either at the time of the forfeit or before
the play of the following weeks game.

-BBQ Event, Dazzy O's Bar and Grill will be hosting a softball BBQ on May 30th, all you can eat and drink for 3 hrs.
Tickets are on sale for $25. More details will follow.

Glory Days Sports has teamed up with Dazzy O's Grill and Bar for the 2009 Glory Days Adult Co-ed Softball League. The start of the season has been conveniently reschedule in order to secure proper insurance, ASA officals and more accessible field locations. Glory Days Sports is now ready to kick off the season the new start date will May 3rd and will run till July 12th. Games will be played Sunday afternoons at the 11th Street Fields in Hammonton. Glory Days is also extending the registration till April 27th. Please contact Nick Gargano with all team information ASAP!

Adult Coed Softball League JOIN NOW!

Glory Days Sports presents our inaugural Adult Coed Softball League. The league is now being formed on a first come, first serve basis. Teams will consist of a 13 player minimum; 20 player maximum. Games will be played on Sundays in the Spring, starting April 5th. Game times are tentatively set to begin at 9:30am and continue every hour and a half. There will be at least 10 games on your schedule (depending upon number of teams), and playoffs to follow. The league will have a minimum of 6 teams. The price per team is $650 (team sponsorship is welcome). A $400 deposit will need to be made to reserve your spot, with the remainder due on March 22nd.
